Mechanic (Electrician) - Facilities, Planning & Management | Washington University in St. Louis - Military Veterans

Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary With direction from the Zone Manager and Working Supervisor, the Mechanic works with a team of 10-12 multi-craft mechanics to perform routine and emergency electrical and multi-craft maintenance tasks for campus facilities. Additionally, the mechanic works closely with internal customers including students, faculty and staff to resolve requested maintenance issues and work orders. Typical craft-specific work includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance, installation, repair and inspection of lighting and electrical infrastructure. Multi-craft maintenance activities will also include working with various plumbing systems, HVAC, paint and basic carpentry. This position is a member of the collective bargaining unit, Local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO. Position Hours: Wednesday-Sunday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Providing preventative, ongoing, and emergency maintenance in an administrative and short-term lodging environment. Maintaining and repairing lighting, electrical distribution, VFDs, motor and pumps, monthly testing/exercising, and load transfers. Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining lighting and electrical distribution. Pro-actively identifying, communicating, prioritizing and addressing needs without direction when appropriate. Responding to work orders and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable and friendly manner. Maintaining data per departmental policy. Utilizing materials, supplies, tools and other University property in a safe, productive manner. Performing other duties as assigned. Work Experience: Working In A Particular Craft Or Multi-Craft Position (5 Years) Skills: Not Applicable Driver's License: A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position. More About This Job Craft-Specific Requirements: Proficient at troubleshooting/repair/maintenance of lighting, electrical distribution, VFDs, motors, pumps, lab process equipment, elevators, and Fire Alarm systems in commercial, academic, and research environments. Experience in backup generator maintenance including monthly testing/exercising, load transfers, and associated documentation. Ability to read blueprints and have a working knowledge of electrical code compliance. Preferred Qualifications: F amiliarity with modern lighting systems including programmable systems, driver/lamp replacement and knowledge of unique address assignment/logic. E xperience with monthly testing/exercising, load transfers, and associated documentation of backup generators. A ptitude to learn and develop proficiency in JCI software. Ability to communicate and work effectively/appropriately with members of the campus community and other employees within Facilities. Understands the importance of satisfying the needs of the campus community (customer oriented) and providing value to the University. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Skills: Johnson Controls Metasys, LED Lighting Systems, Lighting Systems Grade UF01 Salary Range $37.93 The salary rate for this position is determined by the current union contract.
