Postdoctoral Appointee - Machine Learning and Computational Biology - Military Veterans
at Argonne National Laboratory
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Postdoctoral Researcher to join our dynamic team focused on advancing the field of Reinforcement Learning (RL) and Fine-Tuning (FT) strategies. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at developing and refining self-prompting strategies and model-based assessments to enhance the autonomous, scientific problem-solving capabilities of AI models. This research focuses on enabling models to work independently on complex problems for extended periods of time without losing direction or clarity.
The research will also explore applications in biology, such as gene cluster subsystem development, metabolic modeling, and/or drug target compound identification. The overarching goal is to tackle the meta-process of identifying and refining strategies for hard tasks that require deep computational resources and iterative problem-solving.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to pioneering research that bridges multiple disciplines and has the potential to significantly impact the development of autonomous AI systems in science. If you are passionate about advancing the frontiers of AI and have the skills and drive to tackle challenging problems, we encourage you to apply.
Position Requirements
- Recently completed Ph.D. (within the last 0-5 years) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
- Strong background in Reinforcement Learning and Fine-Tuning methodologies.
- Experience with model-based assessments and self-prompting strategies.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and contribute to collaborative projects.
- Experience in problem-solving within mathematical, computer science, or biological domains.
- Ability to design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results.
- Familiarity with mathematical and computational challenges in biology, such as gene cluster modeling, metabolic pathways, or drug discovery processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to generate novel ideas and approaches for complex problem-solving tasks.
- Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork
