The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology Oncology is recruiting a full time Research Assistant in the Leukemia and Drug Development Laboratory (LDDL). This Research Assistant would primarily assist the Murine Research Team within the LDDL.
Essential Functions
- Contribute to collective team effort.
- Organize research results and data according to good laboratory management practices.
- Handle and restrain murine models for basic colony maintenance:
- General husbandry, sex determination and weaning
- Ear tagging and ear/tail snips for genotyping
- Oral gavage and/or intraperitoneal injection for drug delivery
- Bleeding (via cheek stick), anesthesia and euthanasia
- Specimen processing (necropsy and tissue harvesting)
- Murine tail vein injections
- Understand the murine models used in the LDDL (i.e. breeding strategies, transgene models and expected phenotypes, and general colony maintenance).
- Use software to track and maintain murine colonies.
- May cross train with molecular biology techniques:
- PCR based genotyping
- Preparing single cell suspensions from spleen and bone marrow
- Flow cytometry for monitoring tumor development
- General cell culture techniques
- May train staff in murine handling techniques.
- May help plan experiments and short-term goal setting regarding murine models.
- Learn to rapidly translate new discoveries into patient care.
- Provide formal and integrated instruction on the role of intellectual property protection in drug development in the context of a complex economy that is both market-based, and government-regulated.
- Provide comprehensive didactic and practical training in anti-cancer compound evaluation, with a primary focus on how to conceptualize, design, manage, and successfully carry to completion a clinical trial involving a new therapeutic agent.
- Foster a collaborative structure that fosters creative and productive interactions between PhD scientists and MD-MD/PhD clinicians.
Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
