Position Summary:

The Vehicle Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a team of 16-20 employees within a 24/6 operation at McMurdo Station, ensuring safe and efficient transportation services for all departments. This role includes managing complex logistics, training, and performance evaluations, while also coordinating shuttle services, dispatch tasks, and maintaining vehicle safety standards. The supervisor ensures compliance with operational procedures and works closely with other departments to facilitate smooth transportation operations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to and supports Amentum's SafeUp® Program efforts.
  • Oversees training of employees on operating procedures and safety requirements, including transportation for all departments to/from airfields, on-call taxi service, "bellhop" service, taxi service at the airfield, and dispatch functions.
  • Creates and manages weekly schedules for vehicle operators, rotating personnel between various tasks such as operating shuttle vehicles, serving as taxi drivers, dispatchers, and fulfilling seasonal transport requirements.
  • Allocates vans to departments while ensuring vehicle availability for shuttle tasks.
  • Coordinates with departments and agencies on shuttle and shift change requirements.
  • Develops and posts shuttle schedules for the runway, McMurdo town center, and Scott Base.
  • Evaluates employee performance throughout the season, including conducting end-of-season evaluations.
  • Ensures vehicle operators adhere to safe operating practices and road etiquette.
  • Operates shuttle vehicles on various road surfaces and in inclement weather, prioritizing passenger safety. Vehicles include 11-14 passenger vans, Foremost Delta II with passenger compartment, and Kress/Caterpillar 730 tractor-trailer with 59-passenger module.
  • Transports passengers and flight crew to/from the airfield ramp while adhering to all airfield safety procedures.
  • Communicates daily with vehicle operators on schedules, road conditions, and shuttle and taxi requirements.
  • Monitors shuttle vehicles for maintenance needs and schedules service with the Vehicle Maintenance Facility.
  • Performs and logs required mechanical and fluid checks on shuttle vehicles.
  • Maintains shuttle and taxi logs and compiles data for weekly and monthly reports.
  • Communicates via two-way radio, following prescribed procedures and proper radio etiquette.
  • Monitors flight departure and return times, passenger needs, taxi services, and other dispatch tasks.
  • Provides light vehicle training for other departments and large passenger vehicle training internally.
  • Handles confidential personnel and management matters in accordance with ASC policy.
  • Interacts professionally with NSF, military, and other agency officials.
  • Actively participates in safety briefings, meetings, Job Hazard Analyses, and other safety reports as required.
  • Collaborates positively and productively with all team members.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates, and Licenses:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience in vehicle/equipment operation, including six months of operating large-capacity passenger vehicles and/or tractor-trailers.
  • One year of leadership and/or supervisory experience.
Expected Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Good multitasking and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Preferred:
  • Minimum of one season of experience working in the Transportation and Logistics (T&L) department or related areas in Antarctica.
  • At least one year of dispatching experience.
Physical and/or Other Requirements:
  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background checks required by employer.
  • Successful completion of a Federal Background Check required by NSF.
  • Ability to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to safety regulation maximums as required.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in/out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold.
  • Willingness to participate in community programs such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up), and safety objectives.
  • Valid Driver's License issued in the United States.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
