The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Executive Director of human resources shared administrative services will oversee the administration of HR-shared services and projects and provide staff training, coaching, and support. The Executive Director will participate in senior-level planning and operation design meetings, providing innovative ideas to improve processes. Working closely with the Assistant Vice President (AVP), the Executive Director will manage the resources for assigned portfolios, including recommendations related to staffing budgets and compensation reviews.

The items listed below will define the new Executive Director???s success throughout the first year of employment:
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of HR administrative services and the needs of the HR resource directors for their employee groups
  • Improves coordination and internal communication across CUFO human resources offices and staff
  • Increases the CUFO HR brand.
  • Plays a key role in cultivating relationships that enhance the reputation of Columbia University???s Facilities and Operations as an employer of choice
  • Creates and introduces a training and development culture and designs and implements appropriate training and educational opportunities
  • Clarifies and refines this new position and moves their team to the new CUFO human resources structure.

Responsibilities
  • Assessing current HR policies and systems to improve response time and HR administrative service delivery.
  • Participating in organizational planning and design meetings with senior leaders to discuss HR initiatives and operational plans, providing innovative ideas for process, departmental, and organizational improvements.
  • Overseeing change that will increase communication, coordination, and the effective delivery of HR administrative services. Oversee a diverse team responsible for areas such as leave management, payroll, labor relations, recruitment, and employee relations.
  • Collaborate with the administrative team in areas of labor relations, leave management, recruitment, employee relation,s and learning and development to deliver enhanced services to the organization
  • Coordinate with Columbia University???s central HR office to ensure conformity with University policies and procedures and share needed resources.
  • Special Projects and Responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates must hold a bachelor???s degree and have at least eight years experience in human resources with a broad portfolio of employee groups, preferably within higher education and/or facilities management. In addition to the qualifications stated above, key stakeholders identified the following capabilities and attributes of a successful candidate:
  • Knowledge of HR management principles and practices
  • Experience coordinating HR administrative services across a large organization
  • Understanding of labor relations practices and experience with collective bargaining units
  • Ability to analyze systems and operations to identify and solve problems
  • Experience in change management
  • Strong analytical skills that include the ability to interpret and manage data and develop key performance indicators
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain highly effective relationships, externally and internally
