Job Description
This position exists to process payments to vendors in a timely manner ensuring legality, budget availability, and appropriate authorization of all college purchases while insuring appropriate accounts are charged. This position also performs a variety of administrative and operational functions such as account and system reconciliations, monthly tax and ad hoc bank processing and settlements and budget and accounting support.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic accounting and business principles sufficient to monitor, collect and analyze data, prepare financial information, and implement minor procedural and transactional changes in fiscal operations.
- Skills in math sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts.
- Ability to create and maintain electronic spreadsheets (such as Excel) sufficient to enter and retrieve data, and create formulas
- Word processing skills sufficient to prepare grammatically correct letters and documents in a professional manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Preferred Qualification
- Two year accounting degree or four years of equivalent accounting experience.
- Analytical thinking and high attention to detail with ability to understand and effectively carry out complex oral and written directions.
- Knowledge of office procedures, methods and equipment sufficient to input and access information in computer systems, and assemble and complete documents.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment (computer, copier, etc.) and learn the computerized accounting systems and software used by the State and the agency.
- Time management and organizational skills sufficient to organize workload and meet deadlines while ensuring records are accurate and retrievable when necessary.
- Customer service skills sufficient to provide courteous and efficient service and communicate effectively with customers including the public, students, residents and their families, and employees of other state agencies, sufficient to explain policies and procedures and deal with complaints from clients who may be hostile, confused or agitated.
- Working knowledge of MinnState accounting and reporting systems.
- Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and auditing principles and procedures sufficient to provide information to assist in the audit of the college.
- Knowledge of Legislative Auditor, Department of Finance, and State Treasurer requirements for handling state funds.
- Knowledge of data query functions and report development skills.
