Responsibilities

Overview:

As a QC Outside Plant Engineer (QC OPE), you will play a vital role in supporting all phases of utility construction for various telecom projects. You take pride in doing the job right, striving to be the best, and embracing challenges with determination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct quality reviews of all OSP engineering design packages.
  • Understand and apply aerial and underground (UGE) construction principles.
  • Review and analyze aerial, underground, and buried cable designs for cost-effective placement and solutions.
  • Verify the accuracy of existing underground and aerial facilities using customer records, city records, and field conditions.
  • Identify, research, and resolve cable path/placement issues, relaying solutions to the engineering team.
  • Detect and address missing or incorrect design information.
  • Communicate quality issues with engineers and managers to achieve resolutions.
  • Complete post-construction checklists, redlining, and closeout packages.
  • Ensure adherence to customer scopes of work and outside plant design specifications.
  • Manage and enforce quality control processes to produce value-engineered designs that eliminate construction obstacles.
  • Provide support with tasks such as surveying, installing splitters, and stenciling cabinets.
  • Offer additional assistance to hiring managers as needed.

Qualifications

About You:
  • Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5+ years of construction experience.
  • 3+ years of OSP design engineering experience.
  • 1+ years of QC review experience for OSP design packages.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, supporting supervisory tasks when required.
  • Strong knowledge of OSP and conduit design, including Corning Flexnap cable systems and terminal placement.
  • Proficient in project management tools and capable of editing/uploading documents.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth/Maps, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of fiber backbone (F1) and distribution networks (F2) is preferred.
  • Personal Attributes:
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-driven.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Skilled in critical thinking and problem-solving to assess challenges and implement solutions.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with hiring managers, engineers, designers, and crews.
