DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International's Harrisburg, PA office is seeking a Transportation Planner to assist its growing Planning Department on technical planning and policy analysis assignments for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the state Transportation Advisory Committee, and the state's MPOs/RPOs.
The successful candidate will report to the Harrisburg office's Transportation Planning Division Manager and be responsible for helping deliver a diverse portfolio of technically challenging transportation planning projects from that office location. In addition, they may also collaborate with and support Michael Baker's Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's General Consulting Engineer (GCE) team members to address the Commission's complex tolling-related planning, policy, and finance needs.
The Transportation Planner must have at least 3 years of transportation planning, policy, and/or finance-related experience. They will work in a fast-paced environment with a dynamic team of professionals that focus on making a difference and delivering value.
The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:
- Ability to conduct research and prepare technical planning reports
- Ability to research and provide guidance for application of federal and state regulations and requirement to include all 50 states
- Ability to execute project work plans, budgets, and staffing plans
- Knowledge and expertise in transportation planning and interrelated planning disciplines, including active transportation, emerging mobility, program management, community outreach/engagement, and policy analysis
- Knowledge of public funding, including successful grant application development for Pennsylvania and USDOT transportation funding programs
- Ability to understand client needs and create partnerships
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting reports and projects
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
This position offers a flexible workplace environment. The successful candidate will work in a variety of locations including Michael Baker's Harrisburg, PA office or remotely based on client needs and project schedules. They will be expected to work out of the Harrisburg office a minimum of two days a week or more, depending on project requirements.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Engineering, Environmental, or Transportation Management; Master's Degree preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation planning, policy, and/or finance-related experience
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) desired
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiencies in Word, Excel, Forms, and Teams; data analytics and management is a key skill set
- Experience and/or familiarity with other programs such as Survey Monkey, Survey 123, and ESRI ArcMap GIS is desired
- Ability to accommodate moderate travel including a valid driver's license
The approximate compensation range for this position $67,049 - $96,819 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
