Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Laboratory Technician in the Life Sciences Department. The Laboratory Technician will work closely with the Life Sciences team to maintain laboratories and lab equipment for life sciences industry training courses. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for inventorying, ordering, and storing supplies and materials and ensuring a safe laboratory environment for teaching and learning. Ensure that all assigned life science laboratories are adequately arranged, supplied, and equipped for timely, safe and effective teaching and learning. Ensure that consumable and non-consumable instructional supplies and equipment required for laboratory procedures are procured and available for timely instruction. Coordinate the proper maintenance of laboratory equipment in assigned labs. Maintain inventories and other documents and records as required. Assembly of kits for at-home labs. Collaborate with Life Sciences Laboratory Manager and Program Director to determine budget for laboratory expenses including small equipment and consumables. Identify and source appropriate products for lab use, including obtaining multiple vendor quotes. Enforce OSHA regulations for all Life Sciences laboratory classes and laboratory preparations. Promote and adhere to all recognized safety practices and standards. Maintain cleanliness and neatness of all lab areas, including prep areas. Maintain SDS files and proper documentation. Maintain proper disposal of all toxic and biohazard materials and maintenance of disposal records. Assume responsibility for laboratory preparation, including minor maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment; Provide support to faculty in the development and implementation of new equipment and technology. Assist students and faculty with proper training on good laboratory practices. Request work orders through college and vendors for room and equipment maintenance. Maintain training and other professional development opportunities on- or off-campus and stay current with trends in Life Sciences. Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned in support of the college?s goals and core values. Must complete all mandatory work related and professional development training. Associates Degree in the Biological Sciences or Biotechnology. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related subject preferred. Familiarity with the BioWork Certificate program, modern biotechnology including biomanufacturing, and OSHA standards as they apply to instructional environments. Work Experience : Two years of successful laboratory experience at a college or in a Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) lab environment; experience in preparing bacteriological and cell culture media; experience assembling, cleaning, and maintaining lab equipment; performing inventory; experience with laboratory budgets preferred.
