Laboratory Assistant - short-term leave replacement Position - Military Veterans

Position Overview: Bard High School Early College Manhattan is hiring a Laboratory Assistant for a temporary leave replacement position. The ideal candidate will set up the preparations for laboratory sections in biology and chemistry courses, assist teachers as they run the laboratory, and work with students in the breakdown and clean up of the laboratory. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals who have some experience working in a laboratory, enjoy working with high school students and are available for the month from January 28 ? February 28.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare reagents and set up necessary equipment for running the biology and chemistry laboratories following protocols designed by the faculty.
  • Assist students during the laboratory courses under the supervision of the course professor.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces, adhering to safety and compliance standards.
  • Update inventory logs as materials are ordered and utilized.
  • Collaborate with professors to ensure efficient set up and breakdown of the laboratories, and oversee the student workers who support the laboratory clean up at the end of the day.

Starting Date: January 28, 2025

End Date: February 28, 2025; with school v acation : February 17 ? 21

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday.

Location: 525 E Houston St. New York, NY, 10002

Compensation: $2,500 to $3,600 for the time period, depending on experience

  • Bachelor?s degree with at least four science laboratory courses, or equivalent laboratory experience
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and techniques
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
