Responsibilities

About the Role:

The AVP Cloud Migration, Infrastructure Transformation, and Strategic Delivery will lead the planning, execution, and management of GMF's cloud migration strategy to include GMF's VM modernization strategy, assessment of existing infrastructure, design & standardization of migration patterns, assist with resiliency design through the implementing cloud services, optimizing workloads, and ensuring a smooth transition while maximizing business benefits by leveraging CSP capabilities for improved efficiency and scalability.

In this role, you will:

Assessment and Planning:

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of current infrastructure and applications to identify suitable candidates for cloud migration.
  • Develop detailed cloud migration plans, including timelines, cost estimations, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Encourage implementation of innovative technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork and self-organization.
  • Develop standardized patterns for cloud migration efforts
  • Designate target cloud (CSP: Azure, AWS, Private-Cloud) for application workloads, and select appropriate cloud services based on business needs.
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across our full stack, with a particular focus on front-end and middleware platforms and technologies

Migration Execution:
  • Lead VM migration process, including data migration, application re-architecture, and infrastructure configuration.
  • Partner with architects, product owners, and software engineers to drive the delivery
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across our full stack, with a particular focus on front-end and middleware platforms and technologies
  • Foster and cultivate a culture of continuous delivery and improvement with an emphasis on full lifecycle ownership of the applications that your teams deliver
  • Manage the transition of workloads to the cloud with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Monitor migration progress and address any technical challenges that arise.

Optimization and Transformation:
  • Optimize migration infrastructure to ensure cost-efficiency and performance improvements
  • Implement cloud-native architectures where appropriate and leverage advanced cloud services to enhance application functionality and assist with VM migrations.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage cloud capabilities for business innovation and digital transformation.
  • Create, support, and deploy technical SWAT teams for capacity enhancement or support migration efforts.

Stakeholder Management:
  • Manage third party staff augmentation firms, leveraging staff and contractors appropriately with regards to budget, timelines, and skillsets
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including other teams in the Office of the CTO, business stakeholders, and security teams to ensure alignment and smooth migration
  • Communicate migration plans and progress to key decision-makers
  • Address concerns and manage expectations throughout the cloud transformation journey

Qualifications

What makes you a dream candidate?
  • Deep understanding of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Private-Cloud Architecture) and their services
  • Knowledgeable of best practices in information technology governance and regulatory landscape for financial institutions
  • Proficiency in cloud architecture design, including networking, storage, compute, and security best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical terminology to people with limited or no technical understanding
  • Knowledge of migration strategies like "lift and shift", re-platforming, and re-factoring
  • Proven experience in managing complex cloud migration projects from planning to execution
  • Ability to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve migration challenges
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships

Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience required
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in technology roles required
  • 5-7 years management or leadership experience required
  • Experience in the financial services or related industry preferred

OUR BUSINESS & OUR HISTORY

GM Financial was founded as AmeriCredit in September 1992 and opened its first branch office in Fort Worth, Texas. On October 1, 2010, AmeriCredit Corp. was acquired by General Motors Company and renamed General Motors Financial Company, Inc. (GM Financial). In 2011, GM Financial acquired FinanciaLinx to serve GM dealers and customers throughout Canada.  In November 2012, GM Financial announced the acquisition of Ally Financial Inc.’s international operations. The majority of those acquisitions were finalized in 2013, with the remaining market, a 35 percent equity interest in a joint venture in China, acquired in January 2015.  In October 2017, GM Financial completed the sale of its European financial subsidiaries and branches as part of General Motors’ sale of the Opel and Vauxhall businesses to Peugeot S.A.
