Basic Function and Responsibility
Under general supervision of the Division Dean and/or functional supervision of the Chair of Fire Science Technology, direct the operational activities and provide instructional support services in the laboratory. Provide supervision, guidance, and feedback for students and document student progress in the laboratory.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Programs and facilitates simulations and maintains post-simulation documentation.
- Manage inventory of all supplies and equipment in EMT-P skills lab.
- Assist with ordering equipment EMS materials and monitor supply budget. Maintain working relationship with vendors.
- Maintain and troubleshoot all equipment in skills lab, including manikins, computers, projectors and medical equipment.
- Assist in providing skill instruction and supervision in the skills lab with oversight by Paramedic Lead Instructor.
- Serve as a resource and support for students in the EMT-P practice lab.
- Participate in level appropriate EMT curriculum meetings as resource faculty and EMT-P skills lab.
- Prepare and assemble all supplies and supporting sample medical documentation for EMT-P lab skill instruction classes and testing.
- Provide feedback to Paramedic System Program Coordinator regarding laboratory skill and simulation program outcomes.
- Maintain professional development (competencies in technology through training and attendance at conferences/workshops on simulation or related technologies).
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Program Chair, Coordinator or designee.
Supervision Received:
Administrative supervision is received from the Division Dean and/or the Dean's designate, the Chair of Fire Science Program and Paramedic Coordinator.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications and Working Conditions:
- Current Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) License as a Paramedic
- A minimum of two (2) year's experience as a licensed paramedic
- Current IDPH Lead Instructor licensure and/or National Association of Emergency Medical System Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor, Part I Certification
- Current AHA Basic Life Support CPR Certification
- Fire Service Instructor I Certification or transcript of completion
- Previous EMT-B or EMT-P training experience
- Knowledge of computer software applications relevant to simulator functions and experience with clinical skills, EMT-B and EMT-P procedures.
- Must possess proficient computer skills and have some knowledge of audio/visual equipment.
- Strong oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Occasional irregular work hours may be needed.
- This position requires initiative, resourcefulness, professionalism, and cooperative interaction among colleagues
Physical Demands:
Work requires some lifting of items weighing up to 70 pounds, reaching with hands and arms, handling objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear; and the ability to stand and walk.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Association of Emergency Medical System Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor, Part II
- Three (3) year's experience as a licensed paramedic
- Paramedic Preceptor
- Fire Service Instructor II Certification or transcript of completion
- AHA (American Heart Association) BLS Instructor Certification
Additional Information:
Schedule: 20 hours per week
Salary: $27.20 per hour
