Job Description:
The Psychiatric Prescriber provides medical and psychiatric expertise in the evaluation and treatment of all Brown students, with emphasis on psychopharmacology, differential diagnosis, and participation in the management of psychiatric emergencies. The Psychiatric Prescriber also participates in the consultative, diagnostic and outreach mission of the department, providing consultation, collaboration, and training to the clinical staff. Supporting the missions of Student Health & Wellness as an integrated center of care the staff psychiatric prescriber provides effective and high quality mental and behavioral health services as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Job Qualifications
Required Education and Certification/Licensure:
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an accredited residency in psychiatry OR Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with focus on Psychiatric nursing
- Unrestricted license or eligible for unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Rhode Island.
- Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license or immediately eligible.
- Board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology OR Board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience in DSM-5 based diagnosis and assessment.
- Expertise in the psychiatric evaluation and treatment of adolescents and young adult students with emphasis on psychopharmacology, differential diagnosis, and psychiatrically complex presentations
- Five plus years post residency experience in a university counseling center and/or collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
- Demonstrate deep commitment to equity and inclusiveness by working well with diverse and international populations with a range of intersectional identities.
- Utilize highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate appropriate clinical documentation and other organizational skills as required in a fast paced and energetic work environment.
- Demonstrate proven proficiency with computers and ability to learn Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for the role.
- Keen insights into and experience with the developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescents and young adults.
- Experience with or an ability to learn current electronic medical record software.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to psychiatry and the medical field
- Knowledge of applicable professional ethics and standards.
