Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty five colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.
Reporting to the Dean for School of Science and Allied Health, Assistant Dean is responsible in develop in collaboration with the Dean to coordinate and support the offering of the academic programs and activities, with special emphasis on the Allied Health programs of Nursing, Social Work, and Community Health Education within the School. The Assistant Dean will articulate programs and aspirations, directions, standards, and points of view to constituents inside and outside the College community. With the assistance and advice of the faculty and staff , the Assistant Dean ensures the relevance and vitality of programs within the existing Allied Health departments of Nursing, Social Work, and Community Health Education. The candidate will develop new Allied Health programs and professional opportunities for faculty and staff. The appointee will promote student success principles in and out of the classroom.
Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:
-Provide departmental leadership and support for teaching excellence and student success in Allied Health programs.
-Pursue and foster college-wide collaborations, and utilize creative and innovative methods to solve problems.
-Knowledgeable in national research, trends, issues and initiatives impacting disciplines/programs of Nursing, Social Work and Community Health Education.
-Demonstrate a high standard for ethical behavior and compliance with Medgar Evers College and The City University of New York policies, procedures, and legal mandates.
-Guide the College in assessment of student leaning to meet Middle States Accreditation standards.
-Supervise the Department of Nursing and the Department of Social Work in NYSED, ACEN, and CSWE reaccreditations undertakings.
-Develop departmental plans and budget requests with input from faculty and staff, respectively.
-Facilitate the development of programs, projects and initiatives in support of the College???s Strategic Plan, particularly for the Allied Health programs and other interests within the College.
-Advocate and support the use of technology and alternative delivery methods such as asynchronous, online and hybrid courses.
-Develop and implement strategies that support recruitment, retention, program completion, job placement, and opportunities for potential students to transfer to Medgar Evers College from community colleges, and monitor program data, enrollment trends and device appropriate strategies with particular attention to the Allied Health programs.
-Collaborate with secondary school faculty, community businesses, agencies and professional organizations to develop strategies to promote the advancement of the mission of the College.
-Ability to select and engage program advisory council(s) for the Allied Health programs.
-In collaboration with the Dean address administrative management with faculty and staff.
-Engage in leadership training and professional development activities under the supervision of Dean for School of Science and Allied Health
-Undertake other job functions as assigned by the Dean for School of Science and Allied Health.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
-A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in an Allied Health discipline.
-Eight years of experience in responsible academic program coordination, administration and management.
-Minimum four years of full-time demonstrated excellence in post-secondary teaching environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$117,000 - $135,600. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
