CUSTODIAL WORKER 1 - Military Veterans

Job Description:
Under general direction of a lead worker or supervision by departmental administrator or Building Services Manager, performs duties to provide care, cleaning & maintenance of building, furniture & fixtures.
- Adheres to all OSHA, CDC and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines;
- Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, polishes and renews floor surfaces;
- Cleans and shampoos rugs and carpets;
- Washes walls; cleans, dusts and waxes furniture and fixtures following either Level 1 or Level 2 clean/sanitize/disinfect guidelines as directed**;
- Cleans glass and mirrors;
- Cleans and empties trash receptacles;
- May remove and hang drapes;
- Removes snow and ice from walkways and entrance areas;
- Reports need for equipment repair;
- Reports evidence of fire, illegal entry and theft of property;
- Checks in supplies; stocks supply areas;
- May assist in washing and sanitizing dishes, glassware, utensils, pots & pans;
- Cleans and sanitizes bathroom fixtures & drinking fountains;
- Operates dish machine/pot washer to clean and sanitize dishes, glasses, pans, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in sanitation and safety areas of dining, residential, academic and administrative units;
- Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form;
- Ability to work independently or with others;
- Demonstrate willingness to work with diverse populations;
- Ability to read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure;
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals and percentages;
- Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems;
- Ability to demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand and/or power tools and equipment;
- Ability to mix cleaning compounds and follow safety procedures;
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
- Ability to effectively use a 15 foot ladder;
- An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.
Training & Experience:
- May require valid driver's license;
- Completion of a test may be required.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- May climb ladders;
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures;
- May be exposed to dirt, grease, odors, cramped conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, heights, and electrical hazards;
- May be exposed to dangerous machinery
- During Level 2 working conditions will be required to wear designated PPE up to and including full body suit, appropriate mask, etc.
