Job Summary

This position serves the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, under direction of the Supportive Oncology and Survivorship Department. The Outpatient Oncology Licensed Clinical Social Worker provides assessments, counseling, education, and advocacy services to adult and/or geriatric oncology patients, their families and caregivers. In addition, the oncology social worker provides education and support services to medical staff and the medical community regarding the psychosocial impact of cancer. The Oncology Licensed Clinical Social Worker will provide. Consultative support and education regarding the psychosocial impact of cancer to Cancer Center providers. If serving a pediatric population, will need to meet eligibility for CCS paneling.

The LCSW shall adhere to and promote the ethics and values of the social work profession, using the NASW Code of Ethics as a guide to ethical decision making. The LCSW will advocate for the patient's right to self-determination, confidentiality, access to supportive services and resources, and appropriate inclusion in decision making that affects their health and well-being. The LCSW will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team by identifying and offering services that address the biopsychosocial needs of the patient. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • California Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Possession of a Clinical Social Worker License issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences Examiners. License must be current and in good standing.
  • Master's degree from an accredited School of Social Work
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years post-graduate social work clinical experience in a social service or healthcare setting (i.e. in case management and/or social work).
  • Experience in obtaining and documenting a comprehensive psychosocial assessment
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of chronic disease.
  • Knowledge and skills in the areas of individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Knowledge of child, elder abuse and domestic violence reporting. requirements, as well as other significant legislation and laws regulating social work practice, e.g., Tarasoff, patient confidentiality, and ability to make appropriate interventions based on law and policy.
  • Basic understanding of community resources.
  • Demonstrated awareness of, and sensitivity to, dealings with cultural and socioeconomic diversity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: verbal, written and listening. Ability to convey instructions, directions and information appropriately and accurately.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilize the Diagnostic and statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).
  • Knowledge and understanding of individual, child, and family development, human behavior and communication, the influence of culture and values in social work practice, psychotherapy, case management, and the relationship between social work practice and medicine.
  • Ability to use clinical supervision to enhance professional growth and examine clinical work.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft functionality.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Oncology Social Work Certification
  • Social Work experience in an outpatient oncology setting.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Understanding of oncology services, diagnoses, and related treatments.
  • Familiarity with end-of-life care, including palliative care and advance care planning.
  • Bilingual fluency - Spanish, Russian, Tagalog or Vietnamese

    Work Environment
    • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Must be able to work effectively within a fast-paced, dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines. Must be able to work collaboratively in an interprofessional clinical environment. Strong applicants will also have the ability to practice independently, productively and accurately with minimal supervision.
