Lead Criticality Safety Assurance Engineer - Military Veterans

We are now recruiting for a Lead Criticality Safety Assurance Engineer to join us permanently within one of our major projects.

Purpose and Scope:

The Lead Criticality Safety Assurance Engineer is an exciting senior role within the Technical (Engineering and Nuclear Safety Case) Assurance Team on a major project, specifically providing assurance on criticality safety case deliverables and assessments developed by the project delivery function. The role holder will develop and manage the assurance approaches related to criticality safety assessment and will contribute to the development of the overall Technical Assurance Team framework and processes. The role holder will also assist the Head of Profession in capability development and establishment and implementation of resource strategies, recruitment plans and competency assessments.

Responsibilities:

• Lead on the assurance of criticality safety case deliverables and assessments developed by the project delivery function and ask fundamental questions such as is this approach robust, are the deliverables fit-for-purpose, are we doing the right things, are we applying Learning from Experience, and are we compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements and standards etc.
  
• Develop and manage the assurance approaches and intervention plan related to criticality safety deliverables and assessments.
  
• Contribute to the development of the overall Technical Assurance Team framework and processes.
  
• Work with the Safety Case, Nuclear Fire and Human Factors Leads and design/engineering Leads within the Technical Assurance Team to assure the overall nuclear safety case product being developed and implemented for the project.
  
• Assist the Head of Profession in capability development and establishment and implementation of resource strategies, recruitment plans and competency assessments.
  
• Advise Amentum leadership, engineering and project management areas on regulatory compliance, standards and guidance.
  
• Interface with the client Criticality Intelligent Customer and support the client in interactions with Regulators and safety committees.
  
• Review project, client and external learning from experience (LFE) and ensure that LFE is actively considered in project safety case work activities.
  

Essential requirements:

• Bachelors degree in a science or engineering subject or demonstrated equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
  
• Proven experience of nuclear criticality nuclear safety assessment.
  
• Experience of application of criticality codes and assessment in a wide range of operations and fault scenarios.
  
• Knowledge of a range of nuclear hazard identification and analytical tools.
  
• Significant UK Nuclear Site experience.
  
• Solid understanding of UK nuclear site licensing, safety assessment principles, regulatory guidance on safety assessment and Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
  
• Exceptional people and communication skills, demonstrating integrity with all stakeholders and fostering a collaborative and inclusive project culture.
  

Desirable:

• Experience of managing staff and contractors.
  
• Ability to mentor and coach.
  

• Professional membership of a relevant chartered body.
  
• Knowledge of Regulatory permissioning/flexible permissioning.
  

Position will require ability to gain and retain Security Clearance and willingness to obtain Developed Vetting.
