Job Summary: The Health Information Management (HIM) Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the management of patient health information and medical records. This role ensures the accuracy, accessibility, and security of both paper and electronic health records. The HIM Coordinator works closely with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and IT departments to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Record Management: Oversee the collection, storage, and retrieval of patient health records. Ensure records are complete, accurate, and accessible.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations. Conduct regular audits to maintain data integrity and security.
Data Quality: Monitor and improve the quality of health information. Implement procedures for accurate data entry and coding.
Training: Provide training and support to staff on health information management practices and technologies.
Collaboration: Work with healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate documentation. Coordinate with IT to manage electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Reporting: Generate and analyze reports on health information metrics. Present findings to management and recommend improvements.
Customer Service: Address inquiries and requests from patients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders regarding health information.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or a related field. RHIA or RHIT certification preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in health information management or a related field.
Skills: Strong knowledge of EHR systems, medical coding, and healthcare regulations. Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and health information management software.
