Internal Control Intern (Summer 2025) - Military Veterans

Description of Work

Are you a college student (or recent college graduate) interested in an accounting internship for the Summer of 2025? If so, continue reading to learn more about this exciting opportunity with the Controller's Office of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with State directed grant projects
  • Completing data entry in Lease Query system
  • Assisting with EAGLE (internal control) project

The selected intern will be responsible for:
  • Successful completion of assigned projects
  • Timeliness with completion of deadline driven tasks
  • Responsiveness to information request from internal and external customers
  • Completion of required trainings

The selected intern is expected to possess the following skills:
  • Attention to detail
  • Communication skills including the ability to communicate with all internal and external customers
  • Problem solving
  • Willingness to learn
  • Project Management skills

This internship is expected to start on May 19, 2025, and continue through July 25, 2025. The work schedule is part-time (up to 30 hours per week), Monday -Friday. The rate of pay is $18.00 per hour.

The selected intern will be required to provide a letter of recommendation from a professional reference or academic advisor/professor before being hired.

This internship will be posted until February 28, 2025 OR until position is filled.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." This internship is for applicants currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Recent graduates (within the last 6 months) will also be considered.

Military Experience
  • Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214 Form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty that includes Character of Discharge - Member 4 or Service 2 form) to the application.
  • Applicants seeking National Guard Preference:
    1. A current member of the North Carolina National Guard in good standing must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS).
    2. A former member of the North Carolina National Guard who served for at least 6 years and were discharged under honorable conditions, must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
