Job Opportunity: Lead Senior Accountant (w/ grants experience)
Location: Columbia, SC (onsite)
Pay Rate: $28 - $30/hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 5pm
Must Haves: Grants accounting experience (3-5 years)
About the Role
Join a dynamic Grants Division as a Lead Senior Accountant, playing a key role in managing high-volume grants and federal reporting. With a federal budget of approximately $500 million and 40 grants (7 major under the Single Audit Act), this position offers the opportunity to work on complex financial operations and grow into a potential managerial role.
Key Responsibilities
Cash Management & Grant Awards:
-Monitor and maintain federal and other fund cash balances daily.
-Manage federal grant awards and letter of credit systems while ensuring federal compliance.
-Reconcile cash activities to the agency's general ledger reporting module.
Federal Reporting:
-Prepare and reconcile federal quarterly reports, journal entries, and amended reports as needed.
-Assist in preparing the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Assistance and other required schedules.
Financial Reports:
-Prepare state, federal, and ad hoc financial reports, including those under the Federal -Funding Accountability and Transparency Act (FFATA).
-Complete Cash Management Improvement Act annual reports and other required sections of the Annual Progress and Services Report.
Grant Coding & Allocations:
-Collaborate with Budget, HR, Procurement, and Accounts Payable to maintain accurate grant coding and cost allocations.
Audit & Compliance:
-Participate in audits, meetings, and financial discussions with program staff.
-Ensure compliance with federal grant regulations and oversee direct worker certification processes.
Training & Support:
-Provide training on federal grant policies and procedures as needed.
-Support program staff with grant-related financial management inquiries.
Special Projects:
-Contribute to other duties or projects as assigned by the department.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
-3-5 years of experience in grant accounting (state, higher education, or nonprofit experience preferred).
-Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and V-lookups (testing required).
-Experience with SCIES is a plus but not required.

-Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
-Excellent time management and organizational skills.
-Exceptional communication skills for cross-department collaboration.
-Ability to manage high-volume, intricate grants and reporting processes.
