PURPOSE:
Assists, defines, and/or oversees database organization, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation. Provides recommendations in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment. Develops applications to help solve database solutions to business problems, data architectures, database management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of databases. Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods. Maintains database dictionaries and integrates systems through database design. Maintains and documents shell scripts and batch processes. Lead and mentor less experience Administrators.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains and documents shell scripts and batch processes. Develops and applies procedures for periodic database backup.Executes processes in SQL for databases such as stored procedures/functions/packages, database job, materialized view, view, synonyms, and DB link. Analyzes impact on database before making any changes to database.
- Leads most technical aspects of implementing project release upgrades for assigned systems which includes: properly following a project life cycle, the development of project plans, completing all appropriate documentation and notifications in order to obtain resolution within the established timeframes.
- Develops applications to help solve database solutions to business problems, data architectures, database management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of databases. Provides recommendations in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment.
- Develop and implement techniques to prevent system problems, troubleshoot incidents to recover services, and support root cause analysis.
- Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
- Lead, train and mentor less experience Administrators.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Position does not have direct reports but is expected to assist in guiding and mentoring less experienced staff. May lead a team of matrixed resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related IT field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Experience: 8 years Experience perform full data management duties, including migration and continuous integration/delivery.
Preferred Qualifications:
- This opening is for a lead application database administrator for our Mainframe DB2. Responsibilities include creation and maintenance of all database objects, running all DB2 utilities, performance tuning of applications and SQL, troubleshooting application and database issues, providing on-call support, and handling of all requests from application/product teams and other infrastructure teams. The Lead DBA is expected to handle any DB2 technology requests and lead the DBA efforts on any application or infrastructure project requiring mainframe DB2 databases. We leverage Qrep tools heavily, so it is highly desirable that any candidate has significant experience in Qrep. Also desirable would be some experience with The Cloning Tool, Optim Archive, and Query Monitor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Proficient with SQL performance and tuning.
- High-level of analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to train others.
- In-depth knowledge of DB2, MS SQL Server and similar databases.
- Knowledge of structured query language (SQL).
- Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
Salary Range: $107,640 - $213,785
