The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Degree Programs, the Director of Graduate Admissions and the Executive LL.M. in Global Business Law (???ELLM???) has primary oversight for the admissions and financial aid functions in the Office of Graduate Degree Programs (???OGP???) at the Law School, which oversees the LL.M., the ELLM, and the J.S.D. Programs. Additionally, the Director of Graduate Admissions and the ELLM oversees the administration of the ELLM program. OGP supports ELLM, J.S.D. and LL.M. students throughout their Columbia journey - from applicant through alumnus. Responsibilities Admissions (65%) Create and execute the strategic plan for the recruitment and admissions of all graduate degree students and ensure a positive experience for prospective students, applicants and admitted students throughout the admissions process. This includes post-cycle analysis and process refinement through soliciting team feedback and implementation of new ideas and processes. Additional responsibilities include: Admissions Process In collaboration with the Assistant Dean and CFO, create and/or revise admissions targets and policies, including deposit amounts and timelines, deferral policy, re-application policies, etc. Have supervisory responsibility and serve as primary administrator for all admissions databases including Slate and UNITE (formerly ACES2). Collaborate and work with our Information Technology teams and external consultants to ensure that data imports and exports between the Law School, Slate, SIS, and/or external systems are optimally working. Oversee the rebuilding of the ELLM, LL.M. and J.S.D. applications each year to reflect current eligibility standards; protocols and procedures for admission to each program. Manage the admission processes for all graduate degree programs, including setting relevant deadlines, timelines, and reading targets; working with the Assistant Dean to coordinate the duties of all admission readers during admission seasons, and coordinating communications, including admission decision letters. Read application files. Convene and chair the OGP Admissions Committees to evaluate, and render decisions on applications for all graduate degree programs. Conduct in-person, phone or online interviews with applicants asnecessary. Marketing Design and implement a strategic marketing plan for all graduate degree programs that leverages and is informed by the strengths of CLS's history, faculty, scholarship, alumni base, offerings, etc. Create plan for deploying personnel and other resources to accomplish marketing goals. Recruiting Formulate a recruitment plan, provide general oversight of the recruitment process and execute or staff in-person and online recruiting events for students in target geographies, including events with faculty, alumni, CLS and CU leaders, etc. Collaborate with relevant staff members to create and distribute marketing and other recruiting materials. Manage an annual audit of the external website to ensure that relevant updates are made. Attend, or assign OGP teammates to attend, global recruiting and admissions events, conferences and fairs and serve as the contact for LSAC forums and peer schools for recruiting related events. Coordinate alumni participation in recruiting events or assign to OGP teammates to coordinate alumni participation. Financial Aid In collaboration with the CFO and Assistant Dean of OGP create a strategic plan for the award of financial aid, which includes updating and closely reviewing financial aid policies and procedures on an annual basis. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of OGP, coordinate with our development team on named fellowship or scholarship sponsors and relevant faculty, as needed. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of OGP, maintain OGP financial aid budget and provide all compliance documentation required by the University. Yield Management Oversee planning and executing of admitted student/yield events, including with faculty, alumni and other student-facing offices. Develop a yield management plan and track yield both in the current cycle and year over year. Organize ongoing outreach to admitted and confirmed students over the course of the cycle. Develop and execute a reserve management plan. Compliance Enforce compliance measures as determined by OGC per University and federal and state policies, procedures, and laws as well as general admissions best practices. Share application updates and policy questions with OGC when appropriate. Ensure the integrity of data and help create and comply with document retention policies. At the Assistant Dean of OGP???s request, attend University Admissions Deans meetings and report back to the Assistant Dean of OGP the information discussed and key takeaways. II. ELLM Program Management (20%) Provide strategic leadership for the ELLM program through developing and implementing long-term goals and objectives and leading initiatives to improve program efficiency, student satisfaction, and faculty engagement. III. Staff Management (10%) Oversee the work and professional development of the Associate Director of Admissions and Assistant Director of the ELLM, including but not limited to: Holding 1:1 check-in meetings; Training staff on all aspects of their work; and Supporting professional development of staff. IV. Misc. (5%) Represent OGP at internal and external meetings and undertake other special projects as requested by the Assistant Dean. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor???s degree required J.D. or M.A degree preferred. Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant work experience ??? such as, experience in legal practice, law school administration or in a professional environment characterized by complex demands, large workloads, deadline pressures, diverse constituents, and high client/student expectations, preferably in (but not limited to) academic affairs, admissions, or student affairs. Similar administrative experience at a major law school a significant plus. Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment. Required Competencies Superior oral and written communication skills, including public speaking experience. Experience working in or demonstrated understanding of the characteristics of antiracist institutions. Demonstrated experience working successfully with students of diverse races, religions, orientations, abilities, cultural backgrounds, etc. Experience managing resources and working with technology vendors. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in the handling of sensitive and highly confidential information. Knowledge of or strong interest in understanding compliance standards related to recruiting, admissions and student engagement in the law school context. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated capacity to advise and meaningfully interact with diverse, multi-generational constituents. Affinity for collaboration and ability to work well across all levels of an organization. Ability to multitask and be part of a collegial team, and maintain calm under pressure while balancing competing tasks and emergencies. Organizational and analytical skills and the ability to synthesize and meaningfully evaluate data. Technological and computer literacy, including familiarity with or strong interest in developing knowledge of Slate, ACES2/UNITE, and digital learning technology. A passion for, and commitment to, delivering exceptional customer service, a positive attitude and a strong desire to work with students.
