Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Director, with a dotted line reporting to the CNO, the department manager shares 24-hour accountability and additional responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the Transplant department. All functions will be performed in accordance with the standards, practice acts and licensure in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization. Leads in planning, directing and implementing programs related to service line.

  • ​Responsible for the daily flow of activities and timely provision of services
  • ​Ensures appropriate scheduling and staffing of employees according to hospital and departmental standards.
  • ​ ​Monitors and evaluates daily productivity statistics in collaboration with the Director.
  • ​​Acts as a clinical resource for staff and physicians.
  • ​Actively promotes support of and compliance to the hospital safety program by enforcing safety rules, expectations and regulatory standards, providing safety education on the department and work process level and identifying and correcting unsafe conditions and/or staff practices.
  • ​Create or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization and nursing standards.
  • ​Accepts accountability and responsibility for achievement of operational and capital budget goals for the department.
  • ​Follows patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
  • ​​Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
  • ​Participates as an active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.
  • ​Uses job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees.
  • ​​Seeks opportunities to impact the growth of the organization by promoting excellence in patient experience and providing high quality care to the patients served.
  • ​​Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste of time and/or supplies, and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care. 

What qualifications you will need:

Education & Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • ​Expert clinician with critical care practice experience within the last 2 years required.
  • ​Minimum 3 years recent experience in a management/supervisory role required.

​​​Licensure, Certifications, Training:

  • ​Current RN licensure by the State of Texas or from a Compact State if you declare the Compact State your Primary State of Residence is required.
  • ​Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • ​Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
