Job Summary 

The Director of Physical Security Programs reports to the AVP of Physical Security and is responsible for developing and directing the enterprise's Physical Security strategic plan for programs across all HCA locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. 

This position is required to be a Healthcare Physical Security program subject matter expert for the HCA Healthcare facilities. He/She is responsible for maturing, developing, and leading the existing enterprise program in collaboration with other cross-functional teams. This includes other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Legal, Ethics and Compliance, ILOBs, Design and Construction, Project Management, Information Technology Group, and others as needed. 

In addition, s/he will maintain a deep understanding of industry trends, issues, and news to proactively identify and deliver strategy and program execution to minimize and mitigate risks related to physical security. S/he will stay abreast of legislative/regulatory developments and trends to assess organizational impact and ensure compliance. 

The key areas of focus are: 

  • Establish a governance/oversight structure and processes for physical security risk mitigation efforts at all facilities, including integrated lines of business in the U.S., U.K., and India. 
  • Establishing security policies, toolkits, and procedures to mitigate against identified risks. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the development and execution of physical security strategies and programs, including:
    • Workplace Violence Program Joint Commission requirements / State Regulatory requirements / CMS standards 
    • Enterprise Risk Management 
    • Special programs, including drug diversion and human trafficking 
    • Data reporting and analytics 
    • Facility acquisition and divestitures 

Within the scope of process improvement, and in concert with Group, Division, Market, and facility security members, leads efforts to implement physical security policies, processes, and technologies to mitigate risks effectively. This individual is a key stakeholder in managing and delivering $2 billion Capital Deployment projects to minimize security incidents and increase compliance (regulatory or policy). In addition, this individual will collaborate and support division, market, and facility-managed projects being financially accountable for cost savings. 

Major Responsibilities 

Quality: 

  • Provide general oversight, leadership, and guidance on security operations and security-related activities, including advising on HCA Healthcare’s Physical Security program. 
  • Lead and assists with the strategic research and evidence-based approach to physical security policy reform, transparency, and accountability as it relates to requirements from The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and State Regulatory agencies. 
  • Leads a team that identifies, documents, reinforces, socializes, suggests, and improves processes, standards, and best practices as needed. 
  • Drive accountability for department processes, create documentation, and collect lessons learned for each project. 
  • Maintains business acumen and understanding of assigned customers' strategic direction and operational performance requirements. 
  • Oversees a team that manages multiple projects and assignments of various scales. 
  • Leads a team and set scope of project priorities and effectively communicates resource constraints, risk, and timelines up to and including executive leadership as required. 
  • Proactively and regularly meets with business owners to document assumptions, prepare and guide them in their roles as executive sponsors. 
  • Ensures that Physical Security policies are reviewed annually and updated based on regulatory and standard requirements.

  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills that foster strong working relationships across a large team and group of stakeholders. 
  • Identifies gaps in process and potential system enhancements during onsite assessments. 
  • Proactively identifies and resolves program-level issues; Works on an as-needed basis with facilities that have hardships and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Assists team with prioritization and management of assigned development projects. 
  • Participates in activities that improve organizational performance. 
  • Supports department leadership with achieving program standards. 

People

  • Responsible for facilitating effective communications among all team members and leadership to ensure a comprehensive understanding of needs, expectations, and requirements. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with clinical professionals, executive leadership, field resources and other stakeholders across the enterprise. 

Growth: 

  • Collaborates and corresponds with numerous service lines and departments such as Clinical Services Group, Information Technology Group, Capital Deployment, FacilitiGroup, facility leadership, and approved vendors to meet annual goals. 

Finance: 

  • Exhibit fiscal responsibility by effectively managing program cost.

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree Management Required 
  • Master's degree Preferred 
  • 7+ years of experience in healthcare security, quality, risk management or operations Required 

Licenses, Certifications, & Training 

  • CPTED Certification Preferred 
  • Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) Preferred 
  • Process improvement/ project management Preferred
