Immunology/Cell Biology Scientist - Military Veterans

The Alakaina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a Potential need for an Immunology/Cell Biology Scientist to support our government customer located in Frederick, MD at Fort Detrick. DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and execute research studies designed to assess cell biological and immunological response to infectious agents as well as MCM in primary cells, 3D printed tissues, IPSC derived cell types and organoids. Develop and utilize methods to characterize host and viral cell populations. These studies will include both in vitro (e.g., immunofluorescence, plaque assays, ELISA) and in vivo (small animal) models of disease. Provide Immunology/Cell Biology expertise and support to characterize the host responses to antimicrobial compounds using RT-PCR, reporter assay and Meso scale Discovery technologies to quantitate cytokines and chemokines. Prepare protocols, standard operating procedures, and other documentation necessary to conduct assigned experiments. Be responsible for assessing and maintaining laboratory supplies in assigned laboratories. Will assess and ensure that supplies are ordered or will be ordered using the current GFEBS ordering system. Responsible for maintaining assigned laboratory space in compliance with all applicable regulations. Communicate experimental data, laboratory or other work-related issues to the appropriate POC. Communicate with vendors for technical support and troubleshooting laboratory equipment with assigned space. Present research findings at scientific conference, if required, which may require CONUS and/or OCONUS travel. Present results in written and oral format publicly and internally. Prepare and provide a Scientific Research Technical progress report. Present research findings/presentations at monthly lab meetings and attend scientific discussion weekly meetings. In collaboration with USAMRIID leadership, author or coauthor research proposals, solicitations, and other vehicles to solicit financial support to meet USAMRIID mission/portfolio objectives. This includes assisting to answer service calls from government sponsors (e.g. DTRA). Assist in the preparation of technical reports, standard operating procedures, and manuscripts relating to their research efforts. Present results in written and oral format publicly and internally as requested. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor of Science or higher degree. Microbiology, Virology, Immunology degree preferred or similar REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Demonstrates robust interpersonal, oral, and written communication, and organizational skills. Two or more years’ experience in conducting immunological assays including immunophenotyping/flow cytometry on a diverse assortment of primary immune cells, FACS, Luminex cytokine profiling and analysis, magnetic bead enrichments for population analysis, ELISpot, and ELISAs. Must be able to work in a BSL-4 setting with select agents. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism. Experience with models of viral infectious diseases. Ability to work both independently and within small and large team settings. Ability to organize, analyze, summarize, and perform quality check of data. Ability to be flexible regarding occasional schedule changes due to in-life study support work. Must be willing to participate in periodic drug screening. Must have the ability to obtain/maintain CDC Select Agent Program approval.. REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE: U.S. Citizen Must pass NACI background check. Must be willing to work in a BSL 3/4 laboratory.
