Post-Doctoral Associate in 2D Materials - Military Veterans

A postdoctoral position under the direction of Professor Mitchell Luskin is available at the University of Minnesota to participate in the development of analytical and machine-learning methods to model the mechanical and electronic properties of 2D materials. This position is supported by the NSF and NSERC and involves collaboration with mathematicians, materials scientists, and physicists at UBC, Stanford, Michigan, and LSU.
Responsibilities:
(65%) Research:
Conduct high quality research and disseminate the results through publications and invited talks and conferences.
Participate in the research mission of the department, especially through interaction with faculty and students.
Participate in and organize research seminars.
(30%) Teaching:
Develop and teach up to three two courses per academic year. Possible assignments range from introductory to advanced undergraduate and even occasionally graduate level classes.
Advise students regarding both specific coursework and broader academic or career goals. Opportunities exist to advise undergraduate students in directed reading or project-based courses.
(5%) Training, Outreach and Service:
Continue personal growth within the profession, keep current with the field, and broaden knowledge and expertise.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in mathematics or its equivalent no earlier than January 1, 2024 and no later than August 26, 2025.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background in any of partial differential equations, mathematical physics, numerical analysis, physics-informed machine learning, and scientific computation.
