Job Description:

Highway Design Manager

Dubai, UAE

We are looking for an exceptionally talented Highway Design Manager to join our team! In this role, you will serve as the technical expert in roadway design, particularly with respect to Dubai and GCC standards. You will be responsible for guiding a large diverse team of engineers, ensuring project designs meet client expectations in Dubai, addressing complex design issues, and championing advanced 3D design methodologies and digital engineering evolution.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead and inspire a large team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Ensure that design review staff members have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.

  • Serve as the technical expert in roadway design, promoting the use of the latest 3D highway design software (Civil3D/OpenRoads/MX/Inroads) and the interface with drafting software (AutoCAD/Microstation). Implement 3D clash detection (Navisworks/Navigator) and ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and company procedures and standards.

  • Oversee the conduct of design reviews, participate in Value Engineering Workshops, and hold regular design coordination meetings.

  • Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes, regulations and company procedures and standards, identify opportunities for process enhancements and address  where non-compliance exists.

  • Monitor and report to management on the progress of all project activities, including significant milestones and any conditions that could affect project cost or schedule.

  • Establish program requirements for all areas of the program and monitor draft and final deliverables for adherence to these criteria.

  • Develop standard operating procedures and organize in-house training for team members.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively with customers, stakeholders, and peers. Participate in negotiations with regulatory agencies and in public meetings in support of clients.

  • Promote technical excellence and best practice digital engineering design workflow processes.

  • Assist the Project Manager (PM) in planning and developing resource plans for each project. Provide technical support and supervision during the preliminary study, preliminary design, final design, and tender stages.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Degree in civil engineering from a reputable institution.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in roads and highway design, with proven experience leading a team.

  • Prior experience in a lead capacity with excellent engagement with team members and excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Familiarity with industry practice, standards and regulations.

  • Thorough knowledge of current technology and the ability to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on projects.

  • Recent experience with the latest highway design software and working in a BIM environment, including 3D clash detection.


What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Professional Engineering Membership (P.Eng. or CEng)

  • Familiarity with the Design and NOC process in GCC and UAE/Dubai.

  • Outstanding analysis and problem-solving capabilities.

  • High creativity and innovation in concepts and design solutions.

  • Comfortable with making formal presentations.

  • Ability to influence and motivate staff and clients alike.

  • Strong computer skills (CAE/CAD and database programs).
