Emerge Summer Leadership Institute Program Lead - Military Veterans

The Emerge Summer Leadership Institute Program Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Emerge Summer Leadership Institute, overseeing day-to-day logistics, program implementation, and staff coordination. This position is responsible for managing a team of undergraduate student staff, supporting and actively connect with Emerge participants throughout the program, and addressing evening/overnight program needs. This role will also assist with logistic needs such as ensuring supplies are where they need to be during the program. The Program Lead ensures the program's overall success by providing leadership, and guidance and maintaining a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for all involved.
Duties and Responsibilities
Programming Support and Execution (55%)
- Work closely with the Assistant Director, Student Engagement Coordinator, PES Professional Staff, and PES Campus Partners to execute the Emerge Summer Leadership Institute. This may include you facilitating large groups of students as needed.
Student Staff Training and Development (25%)
- Work alongside the Assistant Director and Student Engagement Coordinator to train and manage student staff.
Executive and Administrative Support (20%)
- Provide administrative support to the Assistant Director and Student Engagement
- Coordinator in the programming and planning of the Emerge Summer Leadership Institute
On-Campus Liaison and Support (10%)
- Live on campus to support the on-site residential staff during the summer program.
Position Overview
- Temporary Casual Summer Position: Program Lead (live-in, Summer 2025 only)
- Supervisor: Student Engagement Coordinator, President's Emerging Scholars Program
- The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
The Program Lead will work directly with the PES Assistant Director and Student Engagement Coordinator to successfully execute logistics and programming for a successful summer program. This position will also work with the PES Professional Sta and a fellow Program Lead to execute the various components of the program.
Emerge Summer Leadership Institute Program Leads will live on campus for the duration of the program. Housing and meals are included as part of compensation. It is expected this position not work or take courses during the training and program dates (see below). Program Leads will execute day-to-day tasks including program and workshop management, peer mentor supervision, and student excursions.
Summer Time Commitment
- Program Lead Training : June 30th - July 4th, 2025 *No training on July 4th due to holiday
- Student Staff Training : July 7th - July 18th, 2025
- Program Dates : July 13th, 2024 - August 3th, 2024 *Includes weekend hours
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or senior undergraduate status (90 or more credits), or current UMN graduate student
- Proven skills in organization
- Evidence of effective relationship-building, team-building, and oral/written communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding of leadership education principles, theories, and their practical application
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Experience working directly with historically underserved undergraduate students (e.g., BIPOC students, students from low-income backgrounds, rst-generation college students, students with disabilities, LGBTQIA students)
- Knowledge, skills, and understanding of the social, personal, and cultural needs of historically underrepresented and underserved students
- Willingness to contribute towards racially and socially just, high-performing teams and work climates where all are respected, valued, feel a sense of belonging, and can contribute to their full potential
- Commitment to continuing education and skill development focused on racial and social justice
