Southwire Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
The main responsibilities of the BIM Specialist include creating and maintaining 3D models using BIM software, collaborating with contractors, engineers, and other members of the construction planning & services solution team, ensuring the models are accurate and meet project requirements, and using the models to identify and resolve conflicts or issues during the design phase.  This individual will produce jobsite electrical installation drawings based on innovative and efficient practices.  He or she will be responsible for applying BIM/VDC knowledge, concepts, and experience to size, evaluate, select, and specify raceway and wire routing for electrical power, lighting, and auxiliary systems in accordance with relevant codes and standards.  You will utilize existing custom Southwire technology tools as well as industry BIM/VDC tools and technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities
•    Proficiency with AutoDesk collaboration tools including BIM 360 and Construction Cloud
•    Knowledge and experience in BIM tools specifically Revit, AutoCAD, NAVIS Works, Blue Beam
•    Elementary reading, understanding, and analyzing MEP construction drawings.
•    Provide wire routing layout as well as wire BOM’s to provide efficient building wire installation.
•    Competency with MS Office, specifically Word and Excel
•    Analytical and problem-solving skills both individually and in a collaborative team environment
•    Must be able to adjust to changing schedules and deadlines as needed to meet contractor job requirements.
•    Prepare and revises documentation in various phases of design and construction, including plans, diagrams, and details.
•    Practical experience in electrical construction industry preferred.
•    Utilizes technologies in development of three-dimensional models of electrical systems.
•    Provides guidance and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents and contractor preferences.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills

•    High School Diploma or equivalent required and 2-3 years experience in Electrical Modeling or Design preferred
•    Working knowledge or certification in AutoDesk or BIM Technology preferred
•    Practical job site experience in the electrical construction industry
•    Competency with MS Office, specifically Word and Excel
•    Analytical and problem-solving skills both individually and in a collaborative team environment
•    Must be able to adjust to changing schedules and deadlines as needed to meet contractor job requirements.
