Lab Manager About the Opportunity This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. SUMMARY The Lab Manager will coordinate and oversee the activities of the Jing-Ke Weng lab at Northeastern University, which focuses on diverse plant biochemistry topics related to human health and sustainability. Responsibilities include maintaining lab equipment and workspace in good order, identifying and ordering equipment, managing supply inventory, organizing routine lab meetings, and completing accounting tasks for lab purchases. Coordinates and organizes shared lab resources in collaboration with other labs occupying the same space, as well as with other departments and functional groups at the university related to lab functions. Exercises discretion to work independently under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI) or project leads to achieve the lab's overall goals. Major Responsibilities: Consult with the Principal Investigator or other project leads, coordinates and oversees research activities that support the overall goals of a research lab/group (50%); Determine the methods and experimental controls to be used in research, assist in implementing changes in protocols or methods, and assist with training lab personnel on new methodologies (10%); Forecast materials and supply needs for the lab as a whole, order basic lab supplies, assist the purchasing department with servicing and maintaining major lab equipment, and interact with vendors to investigate novel supplies and technology, as needed (20%); Complete routine bookkeeping and accounting tasks for lab purchases. Collaborate with the Principal Investigator or other project leads to monitor and oversee the overall progress of the lab budget (10%); and Oversee lab databases for resources and inventory management, and organize routine lab meetings (10%).
