Location: Chicago, IL Job Description: Job Summary: Monitors, operates and maintains pneumatic and direct digital controls associated with a computer networked building automation system (BAS). Performs work in accordance with University standards and procedures for University building and properties. Responsibilities: Monitors, maintains and adjusts current building automation systems and associated equipment. Installs, replaces or repairs electronic and pneumatic building automation controllers and associated devices. Uses software configuration tools for BAS field processors to troubleshoot and diagnose system problems and perform preventative maintenance tasks. Interprets building and machinery documentation to troubleshoot and make repairs. Reads and interprets psychometrics and psychometrics charts as they apply to HVAC systems. Helps introduce new employees to shop protocol, procedures and campus applications and equipment. Requisitions materials and supplies using in-house procedures as needed. Keeps working area safe and clean. Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment. Uses computers to enter and access job related information. Undertakes training related to job duties as deemed necessary by the University. Performs related job duties as may be assigned Competencies: Demonstrated proficiency in computer functions associated with peripheral devices and network communications. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents. Demonstrated ability to write detailed reports and correspondence. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions relevant to the position. Demonstrated ability to problem solve. Education, Experience, or Certifications: Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), required. Completion of job-related associates degree (AA), preferred. Experience: Four years experience in HVAC maintenance, including two years experience maintaining computerized building automation systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Completion of job-related apprenticeship program, preferred. Advanced job-related training programs, preferred. Advanced training in controls and building automation system operation and repair, preferred. Licenses and Certifications: Current valid driver's license required. Other licenses or certificates needed for this position as required by law required. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity and be physically capable of strenuous activity over extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and move loads appropriate to job requirements and be able to bend and work in a kneeling position for periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, be capable of working at heights as required, be able to enter and work within tight spaces, and be able to withstand hot and cold temperatures.
