Job Description:
Tennessee State University Public Relations and Strategic Communications is seeking a Communication Specialist to join our fast-paced team and work directly with senior leadership in planning strategic PR campaigns to consistently secure results for maximum coverage of student and faculty achievements and overall successes of the University. The Specialist is responsible for external and internal communications across several university channels. The role prepares content, articles, media, news releases, and other content initiatives to inform and support diverse audiences.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates external and internal communiications flow for press releases, magazine content, memo's, and newsletters
- Writes content for company website
- Plans events, seminars and press conferences
- Communicates with media regularly
- Manages media inquiries and arranges interviews, statements, etc.
- Build long-term relationships with influencers and key stakeholders
- Collaborates with the marketing team
- Serves as a facilitator and provide solutions for peaceful resolution of disputes
Media Relations
- Promotes and publicizes institutional activities and programs to the media, capitalizing on media opportunities by identifying potentially newsworthy topics
- Determines strategic placement of information in the media, preparing and disseminating information and news stories to the media
- Coordinates media relations for trade shows and other events assisting in the coordinating media relations for trade shows and other events, assisting in the coordinator of media briefings
- Responds as university representative and/or spokesperson for media contacts, cultivating media relationships, advising faculty and staff on media interviews, and setting up speakers 'bureaus
Communications Development
- Writes, edits, and proofreads copy to produce standard print or electronically based communications for targeted internal and external audiences, collaborating with designers, photographers, faculty and others on the theme, design and content of print, electronic and web-based publications to maximize the impact, participating in the ongoing management of the campus web-site, and developing, researching and positioning stories including conducting interview and creating story content and layout
