Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1). The Assistant Coach, Women's Rugby is responsible for the organization, development, and leadership of a varsity intercollegiate athletic program in support of the mission and core values of the Division of Athletics and Recreation/Brown University. Duties may include recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes; establishing a competitive schedule; coordinating practice planning, skill development, and designing strategies which prepare team for competition; mentoring student-athletes; overseeing booster clubs and development initiatives; organizing sport camps; and budget management. The Assistant Coach collaborates with numerous athletic and University units and demonstrates adherence to University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent if international, or four years of coaching experience. One to three years rugby coaching experience at the high school level and/or collegiate playing experience; collegiate coaching experience preferred. Job Competencies Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League rules. Demonstrated ability to develop nationally competitive athletes. Demonstrated academic success of previously coached student-athletes. Exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations. Commitment to fostering an inclusive community and the ability to influence student-athletes to do the same. Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community. Commitment to the student-athlete and the ability to coach, effectively communicate and motivate. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; budgeting and computer skills needed. Passion for rugby, and the ability to coach and motivate. All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).
