Job Overview
The AI Strategy Lead will be a pivotal player in defining and executing the company's AI vision. This role requires a visionary strategist who can translate business objectives into actionable AI roadmaps, developing and implementing AI solutions that create measurable business value and differentiate our company from the competition. Working across departments, this role will identify, prioritize, and support AI initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, product development, and customer satisfaction.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Formulate an AI vision and strategic roadmap that aligns with overall business objectives, fostering competitive advantage in the heavy equipment manufacturing space.
- Identify, prioritize, and define AI-driven initiatives across business functions (e.g., R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, and customer support) based on impact, feasibility, and alignment with company goals.
- Partner with business leaders, department heads, and external partners to ensure the AI strategy aligns with key objectives, pain points, and long-term vision.
- Lead the AI initiative portfolio, managing a cross-functional team to drive end-to-end implementation, tracking success metrics, and ROI for each project.
- Develop frameworks and methodologies for rapid prototyping, scaling successful pilots, and integrating AI into existing processes.
- Implement robust governance frameworks to ensure ethical and transparent AI practices, including data privacy and risk management.
- Set up guidelines, standards, and policies for AI development, deployment, and continuous improvement across the organization.
- Conduct competitive analysis to identify opportunities for differentiation using AI.
- Develop and implement change management initiatives to support transition to AI-driven processes, addressing potential barriers and fostering an AI first mind-set.
- Promote the benefits and potential of AI across the organization.
- Stay updated on AI advancements and trends within heavy equipment manufacturing and relevant industries, incorporating learnings to enhance our AI capabilities.
- Establish and maintain strategic relationships with AI vendors, research institutions, and industry partners to stay at the forefront of technology trends and innovations.
Qualifications/Requirements
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree in a technology-related discipline is preferred.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in technology strategy, with at least 5 years focused on AI strategy in an industrial or manufacturing context.
- Proven experience in defining, launching, and managing AI initiatives, with demonstrated success in delivering measurable business outcomes.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to link AI initiatives to high-level business objectives.
- Deep understanding of AI technologies, data science, machine learning, and their applications in manufacturing and industrial sectors.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making and a track record of measuring and optimizing business performance.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple projects, and navigate complex environments.

The Komatsu North America Mining Distribution and Service group is a critical part of our Komatsu global organization. We, sell, install, service, provide parts and rebuild equipment, as well as provide digital solutions for our customers. In the United States, we have a presence in 16 states across the US with 30 primary sites. We have approximately 1,200 employees.
Our group supports field operations at the customer mine sites as well as shop operations at the Distribution and Service Centers. A large part of our workforce focuses includes technical trades.
