Senior Estimator - Military Veterans

SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Estimator that will be responsible for leading estimating efforts of gathering, calculating, and compiling data to produce project estimates for large projects, may also manage multiple projects
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize, plan and schedule for estimate preparation
- Work with estimating team to ensure complete Quantity Survey of materials / resources required to complete the project - Use knowledge of project type and construction best practices to "fill in the gaps" in early design documents to ensure a complete and thorough estimate that reflects the total scope of work necessary.
- Effectively works with estimating, project and design teams to identify and mitigate risk to the project budget and margin
- Work with project team to determine site logistic and schedule requirements and prepare general requirements estimate
- Utilize cost history to inform scope, pricing, productivities, etc.
- Work with Project Sponsor to ensure estimate that meets company and group margin goals. Prepare and present margin plan for approval by project and group leaders.
- Prepares team for and manages Bid Day
- Prepares team and manages estimate presentation to design team and owner demonstrating complete command of scope and budget
- Electronically file appropriate documents. For commercial projects archive in Eos Cortex and Estimate Change Log.
- Cost modeling, value analysis and target value delivery
- Self-Performed Work expertise - prepare or supervise preparation of all self-performed work scopes utilizing appropriate levels of detail and TCH (Task Code History) to accurately price the work.
- Cost History, maintain communication with project leadership throughout the project to learn challenges and opportunities encountered to inform future estimates.
- Build and maintain relationships with Operations Personnel, design partners, trade partners and owners during estimate and beyond.
- Supervisory responsibilities - is an Estimating leader
- Maintain industry knowledge base - utilize all available resources, trade journals, conferences, work on projects, etc. to maintain knowledge of industry best practices, trends and challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Estimating, Civil or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience
- Minimum nine years construction industry experience
- Detail orientation; proven ability to organize and manage multiple projects, tasks and initiatives in support of company and group improvement.
- Expertise with building and estimating techniques and software.
- Able to manage multiple large projects successfully exhibiting complete command of the scope and budget.
- Able to lead teams of estimators on complex work.
- Able to use BIM, plans and other project documents to successfully quantify the work.
- Identifies and utilizes resources to provide quality guidance during design phase to keep project on budget.
- Exhibits and uses knowledge of all building systems, contract types, and other potential impacts to the project and reflects those in the estimate.
- Uses industry relationships to increase industry and project knowledge to problem solve and mitigate risk.
- Recognizes risk and works with design phase teams to mitigate the risk.
- Has thorough understanding of pricing, productivities for self-performed work and works to maintain quality of data.
- Able to set target budgets and complete cost models using cost history software (Cortex) and exhibits complete understanding of impacts to pricing.
- Able to complete large, complex self-performed estimates, including general conditions, effectively analyzing data from past projects to price.
- Understands and factors into estimates impacts related to schedule and logistics.
- Proven ability to consistently advance the capabilities of the group through involvement in group and company initiatives and through coaching of less experienced team members.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor to more junior Estimators
- Able to effectively prepare deliverables and present completed estimates to internal and external customers with complete command of scope and budget
- Possess understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
- Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
- Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

The base compensation range for this role is the base pay range for this job is $125,000 - $187,500. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).
