The salary range for this position is dependent on location and experience level ranging from $83,804.80 to $104,756
Job Summary
Scope of Work - Main duties, settings, geography, reporting relationships, other relationships:
- The Testing & Commissioning Senior Engineer will support the resolution of problems using best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve company processes or projects. The Senior Engineer will be required to coordinate with teams/projects and solve complex problems by taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Work in a group with guidance on only the most complex tasks. Follow updates in research and developments taking place in the power industry, through training and industry associations to stay abreast of modern technologies.
- Assist in the planning, managing, and direction of the activities of the Testing and Commissioning Department pertaining to the testing of protection, controls & automation of AVANGRID's electrical equipment.
- Provide technical support and perform diversified testing for internal and external customers. May be required to work extended hours, be on-call and travel up to 30% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed, complex engineering analyses, review designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles & other viable approaches. Develop alternatives to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.
- Duties: Analyze complex Testing problems. Recommend further testing and equipment serviceability. Utilize a broad perspective to investigate and identify innovative solutions to troubleshoot equipment and system problems.
- Understand P&C drawings (e.g., one-line, schematics & wiring diagrams). Develop & specify equipment, assemble/revise documents & other requirements for assignments of complex level of difficulty using depth/breadth of expertise in own discipline.
- Duties: Evaluate equipment and develop complex test plans and procedures for commissioning, verifying, and troubleshooting. Participate in Industry associations.
- Mentor and review work of others. Anticipates & makes recommendations with respect to customer & stakeholder needs. Explains difficult concepts & influences others.
- Duties: Represent Testing & Commissioning group to complete assigned tasks and projects. Act as liaison between engineering and the test technicians. Assist P&C in fault and equipment operation analysis. Assist in P&C in complex fault analyses. Manage and provide direction for resources outside of the department. Mentor and develop others.
- Independently apply applicable testing & commissioning practices, guidelines, AVANGRID philosophies and procedures.
- Duties: Answer/resolve complex technical field problems as they arise related to equipment and schemes.
- Develop business cases & manage projects or teams. Coordinate phases of testing for assigned portions of projects. Plan, schedule, and monitor construction/test plans.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations like NPCC (Directory 11), NERC (PRC2, PRC 5), etc. as well as AVANGRID Testing & Commissioning requirements.
- Evaluate equipment and assist in the installation and commissioning.
- Identify training needs and assist in training technicians.
- Possess experience, knowledge, and skills in Test Engineering, along with related business practices and procedures.
- Able to explain difficult issues and work to establish consensus.
- Able to work in a cross-functional team.
- Participate in the development, review and continuous improvement of testing and commissioning procedures and related activities.

Education & Experience Required:
- BS/BA degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET (or equivalent) accredited college/university, 5 years' experience performing engineering duties or an AS degree with 9 years' experience performing engineering duties. Specialized advanced training is also required (e.g., PTI. WPI, ECNE PUI, a graduate level engineering degree).
- Possess experience in Test engineering and knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues. Maintains knowledge of leading-edge techniques or technology through participation in professional associations. Able to explain difficult concepts and influence others to change. Able to communicate orally or in writing to regulatory and/or public entities.
