Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama is seeking applicants for a part-time, fixed-term overhire Media Technician . The position will begin after 13 January 2024, and end by 5 May 2025. This includes assisting with projector rigging, cable running and general technical support with video technology in a theatrical setting working directly with students in both our undergraduate and graduate programs. The need is most specifically necessary for evening and weekend load-in calls the first week of February and the second week of March with the possibility of additional support as needed. In addition, in early 2025 the Video and Media Design Area will begin a search for a full-time Media Manager to oversee the curricular, operational, and production support for the Video and Media Design (VMD) program. Your core responsibilities will include: Actual responsibilities will vary depending on job function. Functional areas could include audio, piano, print shop, etc. Engineering and construction of practical media devices for use in theatrical production. Maintaining video and media equipment and facilities. Mentoring students in the process of installing media equipment in a theater. Reading Media plans to prepare for installation in a theater. Supervising and/or participating in the installation of video and media equipment in a theater. Other duties as assigned. The work of a Media Technician often involves a need to work at heights greater than 30', use of a ladder or personnel lift, the lifting and/or carrying of awkward and/or heavy objects and the manipulation of hand tools and equipment in small or confined spaces for short periods of time. While the ability to perform these tasks is not necessary to fulfill the primary goal of this position if these scenarios present themselves the Media Technician will need to be able to find alternative means of completing the tasks involved.
