Course: DSN 2130 Design Fundamentals 2 Course Description : Design Fundamentals is a continuation of an introduction to design principles, theories, methods, visual thinking, problem-solving, and making, emphasizing visual language and visual encoding practices. This progress and process-oriented course combines theory and practice in lecture-studio format. Both lecture and studio activities will require rigorous student participation Responsibilities: Teaching : Delivering engaging and informative lectures to undergraduate students enrolled in Design Fundamentals 2. Office Hours: Providing regular office hours to offer academic support, guidance, and clarification to students. Grading: Assessing and grading assignments, projects, and examinations in a timely manner. Grade Submission: Submitting final grades in accordance with university policies and deadlines. Curriculum Development: Participating in the development and enhancement of curriculum content, ensuring alignment with industry standards and emerging trends. Course Coordination: Collaborating with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and integrated learning experience for students. Student Interaction: Engaging with students to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, addressing inquiries and concerns. Professional Development: Staying informed about advancements in design fundamentals through continuous learning and professional development. Performance Objectives Planning and organizing instruction in ways which maximize student learning Meeting scheduled classes and office hours in accordance with university policy Ensuring curriculum implementation and course preparation in accordance with department standards. Preparing homework and exams, evaluating, and returning student work in a timely manner to promote learning Maintaining accurate records of students progress and submitting final grade roster in accordance with established university deadlines Maintaining confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA Education and Experience Requirements Master's degree or higher in Design or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in current and emerging design principles, theories, methods, visual thinking, problem-solving, and making . Prior teaching experience, preferably at the university level. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment. Department Information The Department of Design offers three undergraduate majors (BSD Industrial Design, BSD Interior Design, and BSD Visual Communication Design), a Design Thinking minor, and two tracks of graduate study (MFA Design Research & Development, MFA Digital Animation & Interactive Media). Our undergraduate program features a year of Design Foundations followed by competitive major acceptance for small cohorts of 18-20 students, and an emphasis on research and cross-major collaboration. Our three-year graduate program admits 8-12 MFA students annually, the majority of which are fully funded.
