Job Summary/Objective:
Southwire’s applications engineering, under the senior leadership of Product Management, plays a critical role in
servicing the high volume of retail, residential, and commercial customers as well as the rapid growth of industrial, OEM,
and utility end users in North America and internationally. The CableTechSupportTM Services was established with the
mission statement of Re3TM, to Respond, Rectify, and Restore the electrical systems using Reinforced, Resilient, Reliable
Solutions. This large engineering team provides the best-in-class consultation and technical support in the industry. We
are looking for subject matter experts with hands-on experience in emerging vertical markets to drive the spec and
deliver value-add field solutions, and initiate service innovations of wire & cable with connectorized accessories.
The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities with company objectives, driving the spec in the data center,
renewable energy (wind, solar, BESS), electric vehicle charging & infrastructure, telecommunication/5G, petrochemical &
mining, mass transit, and ports & terminal applications.
This experienced technical leader will interface directly with customers, host in-depth product training, and lead
troubleshooting efforts, while partnering with agents, distributors, inside & outside sales, operation, and product
management to deliver technical support to electricians, general & electrical contractors, engineers, renewable project
owners, and EPCs. The individual must have commercial experience and be proficient in ideating, designing, and
implementing processes, and implementing commercial-scale service solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1.Manage a team of applications engineers to drive the spec for emerging industrial vertical markets including Data
Centers, Renewable (Solar & BESS), Telecom/5G, EV infrastructure, Mass Transit, and Mining,
2.Assign tasks and monitor performance daily using CRM software. Record milestones and review performance
weekly via SharePoint.
3.Summarize customer visits and file trip reports or meeting notes using lean tools to improve internal
communications and team efficiency.
4.Identify the customer’s technical pain points during the entire life cycle and translate them into new
engineering requirements for products, tools, or field solutions. Summarize product features, functionalities,
code compliance, and long-term performance and submit the ideas into the Stage-Gate process.
5.Utilize extensive application knowledge of the electrical power system as well as Voice of the Customer to create smart web-based calculators, engineering whitepaper, and technical reference documents on southwire.com/services/cabletech-support-services. 6. Coordinate and execute technical requests for RFI/RFQ and bid proposals using CableTechSupport’s engineering spec website (CableTechSupport.southwire.com) to gain customer approvals specifically related to government-funded projects to support bipartisan infrastructure bills. 7. Promote CableTechSupportTM Services’ branding by generating CableTechTalk customer training videos and authoring Re3TM whitepapers, publishing magazine articles, hosting live webinars, and serving as keynote speakers. 8. Initiate and launch novel service solutions such as Southwire’s cable repair kits, emergency nitrogen purging services, labor cost-saving estimators, and concentric neutral calculator tools. 9. Review complex cable wiring designs including accessories and connectivity with the overall system and conduct advanced modeling to provide the best-in-class technical support. 10. Work directly with end users to specify products and services that meet Southwire’s five sustainability attributes from cradle to grave.
Education, Experience, and Skills
Required
Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's
Certificates: A minimum of 10 years with PE certification or Graduate Degrees or 15 years equivalent experience in the Electrical Industry
Years of Experience: 10+
Field of Expertise: Electrical Engineering; application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required. Hands-on experience in installations, spice & terminations, and connectors is a must.
Preferred
Minimum Education Level: Master's
Specialized Degree: Master's degree in Engineering
Certificates: Professional Engineer (PE)
Years of Experience: 15+
Preferred Field of Expertise: Extensive field experience in residential, commercial, telecom, or utility installations is highly desirable.
Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates: Certified Cable Spicer (MV or HV/EHV)
