Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Dispatcher in the Communications Department. T he Dispatcher in the Campus Police and Public Safety, Communications Department is responsible for managing emergency and non-emergency calls, operating a two-way radio, and ensuring effective communication to enhance officer safety. Duties include issuing parking permits and IDs, maintaining and managing criminal justice databases, coordinating departmental activities, and organizing files and records. They also provide first-line maintenance for telecommunications equipment, offer training for new dispatchers, and ensure compliance with departmental policies and regulations. Additionally, the dispatcher handles public and official inquiries, prepares reports, and maintains professionalism in all interactions. Receives and transmits emergency and non-emergency calls. Operate a two-way radio to receive and transmit messages Issue parking permits and college identification cards. Monitor and assist in coordinating departmental activities and schedules . Operate, maintain , and validate data in local, state, national, and international computerized criminal justice databases (NC DCI, NCIC, NCAWARE). Solicit informational responses, coordinate, and communicate responses , and monitor ongoing activities to upgrade information received by police or security units and enhance officer safety. Organize, catalog, maintain , and tabulate Departmental files and records . Perform collateral duties and special assignments at the direction or request of department supervisor(s) . Operate and provide first-line maintenance and perform preliminary diagnostics on all telecommunications and office equipment in the dispatch area. Provide on-the-job training for new dispatchers/communications officers and other departmental personnel designated for training . Exercise discretion in a manner consistent with Departmental Policy and Procedures . Responsible for and accountable for compliance with Departmental and College Rules & Regulations, orders, and directives. Carry out simple instructions; interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; Prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; maintain records according to established procedures; compile and prepare reports; Professionally perform duties; respond to routine inquiries from the public and/or officials; communicate effectively; Handle sensitive or technical inquiries from and contacts with officials and the general public ; develop and maintain effective working relationships Must complete all mandatory work-related and professional development training. At least a High School diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 2 0 years of age. Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Hold current Division of Criminal Information (DCI) certification or obtain it within three months of employment. Work Experience: P revious dispatch experience preferred
