Assistant Academic Director, SFS Academies, SCS, Summer and Special Programs - Georgetown University
Assistant Academic Directors (AADs) are a resource for high school students, Mentors, and the Academic Director (AD). AADs can change gears quickly and troubleshoot problems independently to implement and oversee the day-to-day logistics of their programs. The AAD is an administrative support position for the AD and Program Management Team that requires an academic professional who is reliable, responsible, flexible, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. AADs must also possess the ability to supervise a team of Mentors throughout the summer. The SFS programs include: International Relations I Academy, International Relations II Academy, and Washington & the World Academy. These programs are led by Curriculum Developer and Academic Director, Professor Tony Arend. Each academy is 1-week, with an intensive schedule full of attending lectures, visiting embassies, and discussions with peers. Given the nature of these programs, the SFS AAD will begin work in the spring to assist with program development.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Program development
- Program implementation
- Ensuring student safety and engagement
- Leading a team of mentors during programming weeks
- Enforcing the implementation of all University policies, procedures, and regulations for students and staff
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Director of Program Management, Summer and Special Programs, the Assistant Academic Director, SFS Academies interacts with many stakeholders. These include high school academy participants, student affairs staff, the Program Management team, and the Academic Director (AD). The AAD will supervise a group of Mentors during programming weeks. The AAD will also be the liaison between the Summer and Special Programs team and external off-site trip locations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Current or graduating undergraduate, graduate student, or recently graduated
- Supervisory and/or leadership experience
- Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and Zoom
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current or graduating GU student
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Experience working with faculty
- Experience working with high school students
- Institutional knowledge of Georgetown University
- Knowledge or experience relating to an Academy subject matter is a plus
Work Mode Designation
This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation. Terms:
- The SFS AAD is designated for the spring and summer 2025 term with dates of employment from March 3 to August 9, 2025.
- The SFS AAD will work approximately 5-20 hours a week before the first program launches.
- The SFS AAD will work approximately 40-60 hours per week while the programs run.
- Some overtime, evening, and weekend commitments may be required once programs begin.
- AADs will not exceed 20 overtime hours per week.
- AADs are full-time and precluded from having simultaneous obligations during the designated time commitment.
- Employment with the University is at will and may be terminated by AADs or the University at any time without notice or cause. Employment with the University should not be considered as an implied or explicit guarantee of employment or as a personal contract.
- Failure to meet the standards and expectations of the University, the School of Continuing Studies, and the Office of Summer and Special Programs may result in termination. AADs forfeit any provided university housing and meal plan once terminated.
Compensation:
- Compensation is $17.95 per up for up to 40 hours per week.
- University housing will be provided in the summer term.
- A meal plan will be provided in the summer term.
- Boxed meals will be provided when off-site visits overlap with breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner.
