Structural Design Engineer
NBG West, a Division of Nucor Corporation, is seeking applications for a position as a Design Engineer at our office in Lathrop, CA. Annual salary ranges from $80,000-$99,600 plus significant bonus incentives.
Basic Job Functions:
Create complete, high quality, safe, accurate and cost-effective design calculations for metal building structures provided by NBG while maintaining committed schedules.
Provide “Value Engineering” when designing projects to maximize profitability while considering manufacturing capabilities and ease of construction.
Review shop and erection drawings for accuracy. Seal drawings and calculations as required.
Provide technical expertise through phone conversations, in-person meetings, emails, and letters.
Provide innovative and creative solutions for field issues and modifications.
Periodic travel as required to meetings, job sites, and other Nucor divisions.
Keep up with current building codes through organized training sessions and self-study.
Effectively respond to questions and comments from building officials and field inspectors.
Develop leadership skills, develop relationships with customers and teammates, maintain a “can-do” attitude.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Requirements:
- 4-year Civil/Structural engineering degree and working towards PE registration
- Passed FE Exam or will have certificate within 6 months
- Basic Computer skills using Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years Metal Building experience in Design, Detailing, Customer Service and/or Estimating
- Demonstrated leadership presence
- Proficiency at reading architectural / structural drawings and specifications
- Experience using commercial programs such as RISA 3D or CAD software Experience using ASCE-7 and the AISC Steel Design Manual
