Position Title: Centralized Academic Advisor
Salary: $62,525 - $67,500
Position Summary:
Working out of a Centralized Advising Office, Academic Advisors will be responsible for managing a caseload of students through targeted and intentional exchanges. By applying a holistic model of support and following best practices, Academic Advisors will engage students throughout their time at Manhattan University. Academic Advisors will pay special attention to a students transition into their degree, and empower them to achieve educational success during their first year of studies. Students will move to a faculty advisor once they have achieved satisfactory academic progress and, where applicable, chosen a major.
Academic Advisors are cross trained across one or more of the academic schools. Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Academic Advising, Advisor will:
Register all new incoming college students, providing them with a schedule in a timely manner
Foster a welcoming and supportive transition for first-year students
Provide tailored advising to a caseload of 175-250 students, maintaining individual student records
Follow guidance to effectively prioritize student meetings and triage their needs
Assist students to identify their barriers and obtain resources to overcome them
Facilitate a smooth transition for students to their faculty advisors
Maintain an open-door policy to all students through to graduation
Collaborate on developing and administering orientation and other student programming efforts for incoming first year students
Coordinate with campus stakeholders to secure opportunities across campus for all students, including those students with disabilities
Participate in the development of web pages
Disseminate student and faculty resources related to academic advising
Participate in professional development to ensure Manhattan University is providing evidence-based and best practices in advising and student support
Assist with student analysis, program evaluation, and assessment efforts
Advisors may be required to work one alternative schedule each week to facilitate evening opening hours until 6:00pm
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and one (1) year or more of previous experience in a higher education institution in one or more of the following areas: advising; student recruitment/retention, student development; program retention; orientation/ first-year programming or a related area in higher education supporting college student success
Experience working with college students from underrepresented backgrounds, including but not limited to, Latinx, Pell-eligible and other underrepresented identities in higher education
Ability to relate well with college students, faculty, staff, administration
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willing to work evenings and weekends as required
Preferred Qualifications:
Direct experience in academic advising in a higher education setting preferred
Masters degree in higher education administration, public administration, educational leadership, psychology, or other related field
Fluency in Spanish
