This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), El Paso Intelligence Division, El Paso, Texas.

As an Electronics Technician, your typical work assignments may include: Monitors systems to assess operational status, identifies disruptions in communications/service, reports findings, and suggest solutions. Conducts site surveys to evaluate the possibility for establishing communications and overt/covert surveillance systems. Attends and receives intelligence briefings. Reviews, analyzes, and resolves complex telecommunications issues. Develops concepts, plans, and the integration of a wide variety of communications, electronics, and investigative equipment. Services, maintains, and repairs complex digital electronic systems. Prepares budgetary input for communications and investigative equipment.

For more information on eligibility requirements see: DEA Employment Eligibility GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 Federal grade level performing duties such as communicating orally and in writing to formulate and present findings, briefings, status reports, and correspondence to foster understand and acceptance of findings and recommendations. OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related; OR a combination of education and specialized experience. GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 Federal grade level performance duties such as developing new approaches that guide other engineers to solve a variety of technical problems; and apply new, innovative, or experimental electronics engineering theories and new technologies to problems. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. The mission of the Drug Enforcement Administration is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States, and bring to the criminal and civil justice system of the United States, or any competent jurisdiction, organizations and their principal members involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the U.S., and recommend and support non-enforcement programs aimed at reducing availability of illicit controlled substances.
