This is a laboratory-based position in a group that uses a combination of clinical samples from research subjects, cell culture, and mouse modeling to investigate the interaction how immune cells and airway epithelial cells communicate to direct physiology and tissue function. Under direct supervision and training, the hired individual will assist with: processing of biospecimens collected from human research subjects; cell culture of primary mouse or human cells or cell lines; sectioning, staining and microscopic imaging of tissues; husbandry, genotyping, and experimental treatment of mice; tissue dissection, cell isolation, and flow cytometric analysis of mouse tissues; extraction and analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein. The employee will also assist in experimental recordkeeping, sample tracking, ordering, equipment maintenance and general laboratory upkeep. Strong organization skills, enthusiasm, and a high standard of professional and scientific integrity are required, as is a 2-year commitment. Though not strictly required, the ideal candidate will have completed coursework and/or hands-on research in immunology or epithelial biology. Training for all other necessary tasks will be provided. This position represents an excellent opportunity to learn or further basic laboratory skills and to learn advanced techniques under direct supervision of the PI. There is an opportunity to eventually drive/direct an independent research project upon demonstration of meeting other requirements of the position. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).
