Job Description:

Managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Shipping & Receiving Department

  • Responsible for the process and procedures for the coordination of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Compare pricing of transport with carriers in order to manage and maintain consistent savings.
  • Collaborates and communicates with vendors, service providers and other involved in the shipping and receipt of products.
  • Conduct deliveries on and off campus.
  • Improve receiving processes and inventory accuracy.
  • Unpack merchandise, verify product and quantity is correct.
  • Prepare shipping and receiving documents and information for data entry and transfer to business office.
  • Reconcile FedEx and UPS accounts.
  • Support inventory replenishment


Manage all merchandise warehousing
  • Oversee and supervise the transportation of merchandise between the main store and the warehouse utilizing a inventory transfer process to ensure efficient process of all shipping & receiving paperwork
  • Supervise a team of distribution employees to help store and warehouse operations run smoothly.
  • Oversee and supervise all warehouse space to house inventory in the most efficient manner.
  • Clearly mark all inventory and communicate warehouse organization and locations to the sales staff.
  • Coordinate with Buyers and staff to maintain inventory levels in storage locations.
  • Work with web fulfillment and customer staff to ensure inventory is available on the sales floor.


Key holder responsibilities which includes opening and closing the bookstore specified and agreed upon by the Director and/or Associate Director, including weekends. Manager on duty should restock, replenish, and complete weekend mail orders
  • Open and close the bookstore on a weekly rotation with days specified by the Director and/or Associate Director.
  • Act as the \"On Duty\" manager during the specified days of opening and/or closing which includes all managerial responsibilities and supporting store operations personnel.
  • Attend meetings appropriate to the level of reasonability for this position including but not limited to Department meetings, campus meetings, and developmental or training meetings
  • Assure all policies and procedures are followed and plans and tasks are accomplished in a timely manner and as efficiently as possible.


Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance
  • Maintain motorized vehicle trainer certification and train personnel as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining the store vehicle.
  • Maintain motorized pallet jack and pallet jack certification


Serve as an active productive member of the Bookstore's management team ​
  • Maintain weekly payroll
  • Conduct interviews, instructing and training in work methods and conducing performance appraisals.
  • Conduct team meetings as needed
  • Work to develop strong staff morale, especially amongst the shipping & receiving staff.


Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and minimum 2-4 years of experience with shipping & receiving
  • Experience with retail inventory systems, administration and control preferably in an academic/retail or bookstore environment.
  • Experience in record keeping, training and knowledge of retail system controls and procedure in ERP.
