Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the direction of the director of pharmacy, the supervisor is responsible for the day to day operations of the pharmacy to include scheduling and work assignments, service levels, personnel issues, and resolution of issues or problems relating to pharmaceutical services.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing leadership and direction for staffing in accordance with the organizational goals and objectives.
- Assumes authority, accountability and responsibility for the formal and informal direction of others.
- Demonstrates the ability to create, initiate, and integrate new concepts and practices to improve patient care and/or employee satisfaction.
- Uses Measurement and analysis with objectivity and foresight to make decisions.
- Plans daily coverage according to patient needs and personnel availability.
- Demonstrates an active and positive role in evaluating staff performance and work related attributes.
- Conducts performance evaluation conferences within appropriate time frame.
- Counsels employees and provides documentation of exemplary and unsatisfactory work performance in timely manner (at time of occurrence)
- Follows progressive disciplinary procedure and takes appropriate action according to guidelines
- Participates in the orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department.
- Responsible for assessing and improving the performance of care and services provided by involvement in the quality assessment plan.
- Maintains quality control programs, as appropriate.
- Utilizes an approach to improvement that includes planning, setting priorities, assessing systematically, implementing improvement activities based on the assessment, and maintaining achieved improvements.
- Accountable for maintaining and improving own job knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional involvement.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary for supervision of care of patients.
- Knowledgeable of general safety and risk management procedures and responds appropriately to emergency situations, including fire, disaster and clinical emergencies.
- Provides supervision of all personnel employed by the department.
- Maintains an active personal Florida pharmacist license.
- Reviews literature and market trends to predict changes in pharmaceutical expenses.
- Maintains records as required by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Board of Pharmacy and Federal Pharmacy Regulations.
- Assures that allergy information is obtained prior to dispensing medication for all patients.
- Assures that height, weight, and allergy information is obtained on all inpatients.
- Requests assistance in the decision-making process and problem solving process as necessary.
- Records data for QI and DUE monitors and makes recommendations to improve care, resolve identified problems, and improve existing pharmacy programs.
- Verifies and initials all completed work of pharmacy intern and support personnel.
- Gives assistance to pharmacy interns and support personnel when requested.
- Adapts personal schedule to meet hospital/departmental needs.
- Maintains sufficient knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems to perform daily tasks.
- Uses aseptic technique without exception.
- Follows departmental standards in the preparation of cytotoxics.
- Complies with Formulary guidelines and restrictions.
