Post-Doc Research Associate - Military Veterans
at HERC- Upper MidWest
Vacancy ID: PDS004419
Position Summary/Description:
A postdoc position is available to join the lab of Matthew Ulgherait to investigate the mechanisms of aging, and nutrient-signaling in Drosophila. The newly formed Ulgherait lab in the Department of Nutrition at UNC -Chapel Hill is looking for a postdoc who is interested in studying various aspects of aging, age-related disease, metabolism, nutrition, and the microbiome. The research is focused on the biology of longevity and how nutrition regulates the lifespan of various organisms. We primarily use the fruit fly as our model system. More specifically, the lab studies how to extend fruit fly lifespan via nutritional, metabolic, microbiome and genetic interventions. See below for relevant publications-

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding post-doc to investigate the mechanisms and signaling pathways involved in aging, nutrient-sensation, and the microbiome using Drosophila genetics and in vivo models. One major project involves how nutrient-signaling, Time-Restricted-Feeding, and metabolism directly regulates autophagy and lifespan. Also, a secondary focus of this work will be on the oxidative stress response in the fly and rodents harboring an engineered microbiome, and subsequent influence on intestinal health and longevity.
Education and Experience:
Prior experience with Drosophila models is highly preferred
