This position is a faculty posting for direct administrative appointment to Chair of Mathematics.
Through direct leadership of the Department of Mathematics, this appointment will ensure a positive student and success focused Mathematics learning experience at multiple academic levels, depending on the needs of the College. This role will contribute to developing engaging and supportive instructional methods and materials to meaningfully improve student success rates. In addition, this role provides curriculum development and assessment, care of facilities, and other duties pertinent to the department. Manages stakeholder engagement functions related to the department. The Chair appointment maintains a reduced classroom presence, and may teach in the day, evening, on-campus, off-site, and through multiple delivery methods (internet, hybrid, etc.) based on enrollment, semester scheduling, and the needs of the college. The Chair of Mathematics will be hired at the position of Instructor with immediate administrative appointment to Chair including associated supplemental stipend and reduced teaching load. In accordance with MTC Procedure 2.1.5, all appointments are at the discretion of the VPAA or designee and are typically appointed annually. The Chair of Mathematics position is typically appointed at the beginning of the academic year, but changes may be made at any time depending upon the I College's needs. Such changes made during the academic year require that impacted faculty members receive a ninety (90) calendar-day written notice regarding changes in supplements and/or release time. This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Beltline Campus Minimum and Additional Requirements
A minimum of a Master's Degree in Mathematics or a Master's Degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours completed in a directly related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Education and experiential background in Mathematics. A demonstrated history of excellence, leadership, and change management as it relates to novel methods of instruction, student service and improving student success rates, persistence, and retention. Knowledge of academic methods, pedagogical philosophies, effective principles of curriculum/program development and assessment, positive interpersonal skills, and effective and correct oral and written communication skills. Knowledge and experience pertaining to the principles of higher education, especially teaching methodologies, standard administrative practices, and accepted protocols for areas of responsibility. Higher education and/or industrial experience is desired but not required. Experience with accreditation process, curriculum design, online educational content production, and/ or alternative methods of course delivery is strongly preferred.
