For more information, visit: https://offices.vassar.edu/human-resources/benefits-and-wellness/tuition/ Position Summary and Responsibilities Reporting to the President, the Director, Administrative Affairs undertakes a variety of projects to support the President and represents the Presidents Office to other Vassar departments and external constituents including faculty, students, alum, and the external community. This role represents the President Office in community-wide events (e.g., Commencement, Convocation, community care days) and events that may include constituents in Dutchess County, the region, and the country. The role ensures visitors brought by the President are well attended to and that we maximize the impact of potentially high-profile events. The Director, Administrative Affairs represents the President at various meetings and anticipates strategic changes and/or problems and seeks to prevent and address challenges promptly. The role works to ensure the Presidents Office staff-The President, the Executive Administrative Coordinator and the Deputy to the President-are well integrated operationally and strategically, and are projecting an organizational culture of hospitality, care, and integrity. Responsibilities Understand and prepare weekly for the Presidents schedule, anticipating issues and potential opportunities for the office. Align the office activities and work culture to project hospitality, care, and integrity as core values at Vassar. Undertake special projects of strategic importance as needed (e.g., helping to conceptualize and support Institute events, staying abreast of the local community and national political landscapes for higher education, supporting global collaborations around the liberal arts, inviting key visitors to campus and curating their visits). Write with and for President as needed (e.g., emails, letters, remarks). Plan, manage, and maximize impact of Presidents Office events (e.g., Presidents Teas, dinners, and hosted events) and be the point person from the Presidents Office for community-wide events (e.g., commencement, convocation, and community care days). Work with the Executive Administrative Coordinator to monitor budget, and anticipate/resolve budget pressures. Manage community investments and philanthropy from the Presidents Office. Work with General Counsel and other senior offices to monitor external environment (e.g., regulatory, legal, political) and help President and Deputy to the President develop strategy to continue to position Vassar favorably. Support Board Secretary on Board-related operational issues. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required knowledge, skills and abilities Excellent writing and communication skills. Successful experience in complex, fast-paced environments, and experience responding to multiple constituencies. Budget management and Workday skills. Experience in higher education working with faculty, senior leadership, administrators, alum, and community members with professionalism and excellent diplomacy skills. Experience in a self-directed role demonstrating confidence and initiative. An ability to learn quickly, be flexible, and be comfortable with ambiguity. Demonstrated commitment to excellence and attention to detail. Technical skills (e.g., Excel, Word, PPT, Google calendar, Workday). Baccalaureate degree and five years of experience in higher education or similar nonprofit sector.
